Arlen toughens up before an election campaign.

He took on Anita Hill and supported Clarence Thomas in 1991 ahead of his 1992 re-election year.

Then later he spoke of his “regret” of what he did when the liberals kicked up dust and ran a candidate who attacked him on the issue.

Weave around the ring Arlen to get re-elected. I don’t buy that stuff anymore.

    20-10-30 and Out.

He still wants to be the SJC Chair.

Funny isn’t it, that it was okay when he slowed down the process for Alito and Roberts for about a month when Bush wanted to replace O’Connor ASAP.

Here is what everyone is missing. While Specter is vocal about Conrad’s nomination to the 4th Circuit, he is silent about the lack of action on the President’s year old nomination of Judge Jean Pratter, of Philadelphia, to vacancy on the Third Circuit, literally in Specter’s own back yard. Specter made no secret that he personally favored Carolyn Short, a Republican liberal, for that position, but the White House rejected Short in favor of the more conservative and better qualified Pratter. Specter forced the White House to nominate Short to the District Court, but he still harbors the hope that if McCain is elected, he can have his way and get Short on the Court of Appeals, knowing that even if Obama is elected, he can still get Short on the District Court (her husband is an active Democrat, former Congressional candidate, etc.).

Stuff like this (not the abortion issue or stem cell research) is why Specter has to go. The man is throughly unprincipled. And I could not resist emerging from my retirement to say so.
