Considering that Murtha voted for the bailout and has said all these stupid things, he should be in trouble.
Russell needs to hammer him on both and ride to victory.
How truly sweet a Russell upset would be! To see Murtha go down in defeat, rambling and stunned, I would do almost anything!
The redneck vote is swinging blue!
Here’s a key line from the story:
“About 54 percent of voters among those polled say it’s time for someone else to represent them in Congress. About 35 percent say Murtha deserves to be re-elected.”
Sadly, there’s a quote from a woman who was a Marine saying that she supports Murtha because he was a Marine. Apparently, she doesn’t know (or doesn’t care) about Murtha slandering Marines.
Murtha was never a Marine.
Sadly, he was but who knows if he ever embodied the values of a Marine.
He and Lee Harvey Oswald are among the few ex-Marines that I know of. He is a disgrace.
Unfortunatley, as a Marine, I cannot call him an Ex-Marine. He did allot of good things in the Corps. But I can draw a line between his accomplishments in the Marines and what he’s done in Congress.
It’s Semper Fi…Not Semper I Jack.
Forget polls — support Russell. He’s worth it.
I commissioned a robo poll of 800 one out of four voters which is appropriate in very high turnout election. The results show Murtha trailing Obama and is consistent with internal Russell poll as reported. I am told I will have polling memo later today.
“Murtha’s general disregard for his district and his recent comments mean that all of a sudden the dark-horse Republican has a real chance at winning the race. “The Democrats did not poll the race because they thought it was a non-issue, and the Republicans for the same reason. So we’ve done some internal polling,” Russell’s campaign manager, Peg Luksik, told National Review Online. “What we’re finding is that even three weeks ago Mr. Murtha’s support was hovering right around 50 percent, which for a gentleman who has a 63 percent voter-registration edge, that’s a significant softening of the support that he has typically enjoyed.”
And the internal poll Luksik is citing was taken three weeks ago, before Murtha’s insulting comments. According to Luksik, the response to their campaign since then has been overwhelming. “At this point the biggest problem we’re having is keeping up with the demand for everything we can possibly give folks,” she said. “People are now saying ‘who is this Mr. Russell?’ We’re now hearing from Democratic committee people, and folks are saying to us, ‘I have voted for Mr. Murtha my whole life and I’m not voting for him this year.’”
The response has been an odd mix of anger and humor directed at Murtha, who seems to be demonstrably out of touch after 34 years. His district is, as Luksik noted, 63 percent Democratic—but those Democrats skew socially conservative on issues like abortion and political radicalism that dog Obama. “People are feeling incredibly insulted. People who are voting their deeply held convictions with are being equated with racism,” she said. “
This is a serious question.
What did Murtha ever do as a Marine that was good? I was under the impression that he was in a support position behind the lines and that his medals were along the lines of John Kerry’s.
If my impression is wrong, I would like to know the truth but as you say, that doesn’t excuse anything that he has done in Congress.
Thanks.
BTW, did you know that Kerry served in Vietnam?
GO RUSSELL GO!!
If I knew NOTHING about politics, polling and fundraising, I would think Murtha is in trouble. But, I don’t have the luxury of being blissfully ignorant of politics whereby I can believe that may favored candidate always will win. You see, I live in the real world, and I know that newspaper stories tell barely any of the story.
Susquehanna, as I pointed out before, is an admittedly GOP polling firm. Every one of the nearly 30 political clients it lists on its website is a Republican. Taking Susquehanna’s polls as gospel is akin to believing the internal polls of a Republican candidate.
Second, Russell fundraising “success” is the beneficiary/victim of the BMW Direct consulting/mail scheme. The FACT of the matter is that 2/3 of the $ raised by Russell goes to BMW Direct in payment for consulting/fundraising services. First, the vast majority of his contributions come from outside of the district (and I thought that showed weakness, or does it only show weakness in Democrats but strength in Republicans?). Second, Russell “outraised” Murtha for at least the second quarter in a row, yet his expenses were more than 10 times greater, while spending only a tiny fraction of the money on campaigning in the district, yet he still has much less cash-on-hand than Murtha. Russell does not have a Washington-based consultant, and neither the NRCC nor the RNC has invested money in his district, what does that say to you?
For people who like to think they know so much about politics, you folks really do not know much about politics at all.
Go Luksik! Go!
Let’s get a good guy in there for once
Talk to us after November 4. Until then you’re just blather and bombast, hot air and nothing substantial. No one believes anything you say, but we do enjoy reading it. It’s like the impotent elderly lion roaring at the zoo visitors. Fun to watch for a bit, then we move on to more interesting exhibits.
This year is shaping up to be a tough one for Republicans. If we can oust Murtha, I will take it as a moral victoy. I live in Illinois and have contributed to Russell’s campaign, feeling that my contributions can hopefully have an effect there. Living in the state of Durbin and Obama, I hope someone can return the favor some day.
Most of my family lives in California and my brother is a Marine. My family is supporting Russell, too. Please, stand up for a fine man and help Russell.
If momentum favors Russell, you mean the rednecks are swinging red, right?
Murtha could be Carlos Hathcock or audey Murphy but he would still be Politician and a disgracefull one at that how any one could vote for him including his own family is beyond me Also Murtha was no Carlos hathcock as his records show’s.
I can’t wait until has to go to court and defend his comments he made.
Add to all the above comments regarding Murtha’s dip in the polls and Russell’s push, Rush Limbaugh gave the Russell campaign national attention by mentioning it on his show and a good plug last week. It is a well deserved boost. Go Russell, go…
It’s time for a change. Not only has Murtha insulted and embarrassed his constituents, then he voted for the bailout legislation. We all know now, that this legislation does not contain the necessary safeguards, to ensure that our money will not be miss spent. Any incumbent that voted for this legislation should be voted out of office.
