There is no clear conservative in that field.
    What about Colin Hanna?

Chester County Commissioner Kathi Cozzone would be the best candidate for this seat. No more 'good ole' boys' club.
Dinniman will be shown to be the Demoratic fraud that he is, and Dan Wofford will not have the support. We have already seen how well family dynasty's work (Wofford & Casey) and who the heck is Phillips??
What idiot floated these name? Obviously not anyone remotely asscoiated with Democrats in Chester County

I thought Cris Casey wanted to be a US Atty?.

Gerlach's trial ballon might be deflated before this race becomes serious.

If not, this seat will be a nasty and expensive fight for whoever wins the respective primaries.

I wonder if either party has the stomach to fight it seriously though. Redistricting would probably make the district different in 2012. If the Republicans have their way, Lower Merion will be gone from the district. This would make it a far more safer Republican seat. If the Democrats have their way, some of the more Republican areas will be shifted to other districts.

With PA projected to lose a US House seat for the 2012 election, this district is probably the one that will be split into parts. The western parts going over to District 16 held by Pitts (R), and the eastern parts being split between 7th (Sestak-D) and 13th (Schwartz-D), and the northern part to the 15th (Dent-R). This would move parts that are solid R and solid D into districts that have safe R and D reps.

The makeup of the PA House and Senate as well as who lives in the PA Governor's mansion, will also have a big impact on redisticting.

Also, I do not think Gerlach will run for governor in 2010. He will probably run for his House seat a final time in 2010 before taking a shot at Casey's US Senate seat in 2012.

    Hanna
Didn't he raise taxes 33% in one year, hire a whole bunch of new investment dudes for the pension fund in Chester County while merrily collecting pay to play campaign contributions – Hanna's investment pros have now lost almost $100 million of taxpayer money for Chester County taxpayers.
and he funded the abortion group Planned Parenthood with Chester County taxpayer money
Let's not forget how his 911 radio system didn't work either – and a bunch of whistleblower lawsuits settled or bought off from his bad 911 decisions Probably more campaign contributions from the vendors in his wallet- maybe they give to "Let Freedom ring" now. What a joke
As Chester County Commissioner Hanna had a more liberal record than Nancy Pelosi

    Conservative not!!!!!

We could only hope that a good candidate like Cozzone would run. No baggage like the other Republican and Democrat hacks – and votes against tax increases. Where did those tired names come from, anyway? We need public servants, not self-servers.

The real question would be "Who will President Obama help?"

I do not see SEPA losing a seat. I think the legislature will try to kill a seat in the west where the population loss is happening. I would love to see Cambria County redistricted into Shuster's district. Put Murtha in a Republican district and he is done.

Does Cozzone even live in the district. Remember Chester County has parts in three districts.

Cozzone is in the district. Best candidate. Best name. professional. No b/s politician. As a republican, would be especially happy with her serving.

I know you do not have to live in the district, but it is a nice point for your opponents to attack.

RIGHT ABOUT THAT BUT IN SOME CASES IT DOES NOT WORK
IF THE CANDIDATE ACTUALLY LIVES IN CHESTER COUNTY
HE OR SHE CAN RAIL ABOUT BREAKING UP THE COUNTY INTO THREE DISTRICTS

Ryan, have to agree with you on Gerlach. Corbett is the golden boy and Meehan is banking on the SE GOP firewall. Gerlach is a man without a base. One school of thought is that he's looking to raise his profile statewide for a run in 2012 depending no how gerrymandering goes. Not a bad idea for him.

  17. Posted February 14, 2009 at 6:37 pm | Permalink

I suspect he might be eying a run against Casey too.

I am not sure Meehan has the southeastern base nailed down. Gerlach is well known in SEPA especially Montgomery, Chester, and Berks counties.

The real wildcard factor I think Gerlach might play is economic issues. Baring a Toomey run, he is the only candidate with anything resembling economic experience. He can bring up he has been in DC fighting bailouts and for tax cuts. What can Meehan or Corbett talk about economically? Both have spent their lives as prosecutors.

I have not made up my mind on a candidate yet. I could support either of them. I want to hear what they have to say on economic issues first.
