Who cares what a poll says? We're not a democracy…we don't govern by mob rule.
Perhaps some digging into the founding documents might help legislators learn a few things about liberty. Perhaps some digging into the current laws will help legislators find laws that are already applicable.
If the government doesn't think that we are smart enough to control our own lives, why do they put such credence in the elections that put them into office? If we are that stupid, maybe the candidate that loses should take office.
Much, much more needs to be done. Drivers should not be allowed to speak with passengers. Such distractions might cause even more accidents.
Less important controls, like heat, a/c, radios, windows, etc. should be automatically disabled while any vehicle is in motion. No one should be allowed to eat or drink while driving, either. Drivers should be in soundproof compartments when there are passengers so they will not be kept from focusing on driving. All moving vehicle windows must be kept closed so that swarms of bees and wasps cannot cause drivers to go out of control.
Disabling devices need to be installed to bring any violating vehicle to an immediate stop. Nanny has a lot to do.
The thought that over 80% support such hogwash makes me wonder whether or not we are still worthy of self-governance. Since our legislative "leaders" govern by polls and public opinion alone, I take it many legislators will be moved to sign on to Shapiro's bill.
What's next, a bill to require that dogs wear seatbelts? Oh wait…
