Can't think of a bigger waste of space than Mike Brubaker. Claims to be a conservative but never bothers to at least make an appearance at the PLC, doesn't play well with other, and is more concerned with his ego than issues.
Toss up as to whether he is a net loss or gain for LanCo…
If these people are so poor, why are they not on Medicaid?
The DRPA should be abolished and the responsibilities shifted jointly to PennDOT and its New Jersey equivalent.
Actually, DPRA should be limited to what its actual purpose is, which is maintaining bridges, running PATCO, and managing seaport operations. If DPRA was abolished then the bridges and PATCO would be in worse shape than they already are. PennDot can't even figure out how to pave a road, much less run a bridge system.
I may be in the minority here, but I think the airport operations should be transfered to DRPA from the City of Philadelphia.
The bill in the house has very good merit. The only reason DPRA is in its current hole is because they decided to spend money on crap that wasn't transportation related. Thank you Gov Rendell and Gov Corzine.
Actually if DRPA is kept, transferring the airport to a regional authority might be a good move. I do not see the purpose of having DRPA and SEPTA though. Why is DRPA have PATCO when SEPTA also has lines running to New Jersey? Maybe merging SEPTA and DRPA might be a better idea.
SEPTA runs only two rai lines into NJ and they both goto Trenton and West Trenton, which are no where near the jurisdiction of DPRA. Those two lines are a continuation of the old Pennsylvania and Reading railroads. The only reason SEPTA continues to service both is there is a market for it, and they receive funding from NJ to run in to their state. This is also ture with the SEPTA line to Wilmington and Newark, DE. The charter for SEPTA only states that it has operational rights to public transport in Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware, and Chester counties. Awhile back, Delaware stopped funding service to Wilmington, so SEPTA cut the route back to terminate at Marcus Hook. If NJ stopped funding trips over the Delaware into Trenton and West Trenton, SEPTA would also stop going there as well.

A way to think about PATCO is that it is smilar to the PATH, which is run by the Port Authorty of NY-NJ. In fact, PATCO is one of the better run transit agencies on the east coast, so why would you want to mess with a good thing.
In terms of merging SEPTA and DPRA, that would involve many many hoops to jump through. The best bet is to limit what DPRA can do, and try to reform SEPTA from the inside. Right now, SEPTA actually has a good general manager, who is trying to bring change, albeit very slowly.
