As a joke, Mr. Ardo today produced a pretend budget — about three inches thick — with a multi-colored cover mimicking the cover of Mr. Rendell's real budget from February, but with every one of the pages in the "Metcalfe budget'' blank.
I understand that that Rendell has never signed a budget on time, so this “joke” budget may be the administration’s first.
After increasing state welfare spending 67% from $6 billion to $10 billion, I guess that the joke is on us who are still paying taxes.
If I looked and sounded like Ardo, and had to represent the interests of someone so lacking in substance, I don't know that I'd be out there calling people names. Then again, I suppose when you're trying to defend the indefensible, name calling and cheap shots is about all you have to go on.
