Like the groundhog, he pops his head up once a year and then disappears.
"Public trust has been diminished,'' Said Sam Smith. No, Sam……….Public trust has been destroyed, obliterated. It's gone. It's NON-EXISTENT.
In addition to an independent audit of the legislature, will you call for a forensic audit of leadership accounts going back 10 years? Willing to turn findings over to federal prosecutors and Tom Corbett? Are you willing to leave no stone unturned?
Unless and until you do, spare me the political theater………….The reform commission was a joke. This is more of the same.
He's just now decided to reform? That's as bad as HWD. What about when he was Majority Leader? Or under Perzel as whip? This from the guy who wasted taxpayers money on a $5,000 refrigerator for his conference room! I didn't hear him saying it was wrong for the Chairman of the HRCC to collect campaign money using his Capitol Building office and Secretary.
NEVER FORGET……..this man "served" us on the conference committee that shoved the payraise down our throats. ANYTHING he does is, therefore, suspect.

This is a signal that Perzel and other House Republicans are about to get hammered by Corbett's grand jury. With Smith being this aggressive on reform, you know the next round of indictments are going to fall very heavy on House Republicans. It's pre-emptive damage control.
While I agree that both sides have done their share of pre-emptive control (the d's alot more and they even turned on each other), should they do nothing? Would the people be better served if our elected officials allowed Corbett's office to hold them hostage? I think while there may be an ulterior motive to some manuevering, not everything is a direct result of the investigation.
Remember, Smith is a conservative and his members ran on reform. As a leader he has an obligation to voice their concerns.
Sam the Sham and The Pharisees!!
What color is the sky in your world?
It is not conspiracy theory red. please be more specific with what concerns you with my post. i will be happy to debate.
I recall hearing the same phraseology from Nacho Offspring a few years back. Must be in common usage amongst Harrisburg's R toadies.
John – First off I was having a bit of fun. No hard feelings. But even after Smith spread all those rumors around harrisburg that you were going to get indicted, you still stick up for him, why? Also, have you noticed that the flow of information from Smith's office to the AG has slowed down a bit? I find that very strange…
"…Sam Smith is a conservative…" and I'm the Queen of England.
All in good fun, son. All in good fun.
The AG doesn't need Smith anymore. They have me.
Now I am confused about protocol.
Do I hug you — as was done recently by a certain unnamed wife of a recently elected president?
Or do I bow to you — as was done recently by a certain unnamed husband of the above reference wife?
Liberals also ran on a platform of reform this last election. And in the political world in Harrisburg, right now, everything is a result of the investigation, all maneuvering is a result of it, to save face, to cut loses, to come out on top in the end.
Maybe Smith is trying to show he's a "reformer" because he's worried that somebody will remember his December 2007 comments to the media. And if any House Republicans are charged, he's got some 'splainin to do …
"Smith said DeWeese’s claims not to know caucus staffers were allegedly basing bonuses on campaign work were “questionable.” As the Republican leader, I know that ultimately the buck stops with me, and I’m responsible for the actions, even if I really wasn’t … As leader you’re aware of most things. Some minor details I don’t see that go on from day to day that go on in terms of operations. … I can say categorically, no ifs, ands, ors about it, our employees who received bonuses had nothing to do with campaign work. We didn’t have a commingling of our legislative and our political operations. We had an affirmative plan to keep them separate.”
LOL. No bowing allowed…………
That leaves . . . .
This is reform? Ban officials' staff members from doing campaign work during their regularly scheduled, Monday to Friday hours.
Guess it's ok for staffers (paid by tax monies) of officials (paid by tax monies) to do campaign work off regularly scheduled Mon-Fri hours then?
There's a loophole the size of all fat cats in Harrisburg.
