Arlen is on fire, and not in a good way.

    The stimulus vote. Unforgivable.

SVC09 gives Senator Specter a grade of D- i'm pretty sure Arlen is ranked one of the Top Ten U.S. every year by TIME magazine so im pretty sure his grade is better than a D-. Its more towards a B+ A- range. Arlen does what is right and that is what is most important.

    Arlen,

You only wish that you were in the Top Ten.

BTW, you know the rules. When you post here, you are supposed to use your real name, not an alias — especially one not as ridiculous as Top Ten. You don't really think that anyone here — or anywhere else for that matter — believes that you are in the Top Ten, do you?

Arlen may get up to 70 percent or more this year just to look good for next year.

    But we won't be fooled.

    20 10 30 Out.

Arlen votes with the GOP 62% of the time. There seems to be an unstated premise here: Namely that the GOP vote is consistent with the conservative vote. Nonsense. The GOP is full of mushy moderates. How often does the GOP vote as conservatives would like? 50%?

SO………..62% of 50% is…………at best 31% of the total…….if you assume Arlen votes with the GOP on conservative issues………..a dubious proposition.

For conservatives, Arlen isn't even the lesser of the evils…………

62% sounds kinda okay…maybe. Well, no…not really. It stinks terribly. He's only able to achieve that high of a number by voting with the party on the hundreds of meaningless little bills that flow through congress each year.

The real punishment is found in the 38%. Each of those votes are kicks in the groin. Those are the bills that matter – taxation, life issues, etc.

62%? – seems inflated. How many chips were called in to get him over 50% in the study?

Who sets the "party line," and why do you all follow it so perfectly? Arlen thinks for himself, a novel act in political circles really. Toomey will get crushed by any Democrat. Then the number will be 0 (that is, R senators in the state). Be careful what you wish for. Specter is one of the last legitimiate thinkers in the Republican party.

  16. Posted April 13, 2009 at 4:32 pm | Permalink

Thank you very much for the good laugh. Arlen "…one of the last legitimate thinkers in the Republican party." One can get that thinking from any ole democrat. Still LMAS. Thanks again for the humor.

Was Arlen thinking when he used Scottish Law in an jurisdiction on the opposite side of the world? Was Arlen thinking when he embraced the Clinton gun ban, which has since become recognized as a huge blunder? Was Specter thinking when he flip-flopped on Card Check? Was Specter thinking when he threw his support behind payjackers Jubelirer, Brightbill and Allen?

Seems to me he might be better off putting his brain on neutral, thus causing less damage.

  18. Posted April 13, 2009 at 6:12 pm | Permalink

If you haven't noticed Jane, we don't follow the 'party' line. In fact, if you reread the comments, I don't think anyone even agrees with the 62% figure or even believes that it is good if it is accurate.

We follow the Constitution and we expect him and the other 99 to do so also.

Congress has limited authority to act in specific areas. Any vote for any bill outside those bounds are bad votes whether the Republicans agree with it or not.

If you agree with Arlen, if you like Arlen, you'll love the democrat so why are you protesting our support of a conservative? Me thinks thou dost protest too much.

And Jane, every time that you were called an ignorant slut on SNL, it bothered me. I LMAO, but it bothered me.

  19. Posted April 14, 2009 at 8:54 am | Permalink

If he were independent he wouldn't be so predictable: he votes like a liberal Democrat for the first four or five years of his term, then moves right as a primary approaches. Arlen can be called many things, but a great independent thinker is not one of them.
