Ridge was asked point blank, Toomey or Democrat Arlen Specter, and he punts? ????
Tommy Boy bothered to get himself in a GOP primary by backing a payjacker (Jubelirer) but he can't be bothered to weigh in on a very important Senate race in favor of the Republican in the fall election if it's Toomey???????
Looks like Tom Ridge just showed his true colors.
Way to go Tom.
I predicted this – no redeeming Ridge now – obviously a lot of sour grapes and retribution. He thought he was gonna come in and "save" the party from itself – WRONG. Now he's on the outside looking in.
Those in the Culture of Death stick together.
If that transcript of Ridge with Chris Matthews is factual and in context, Ridge did not distinguish himself. Also, why would anyone with any sense of fairness and fair play give an interview to that " Bilious, Bloated, Biased, Blithering, Blabbermouth Matthews?
SS
and this is why Toomey can never win
Face the facts moderates will never vote for him
dave that's funny. ridge was left off the national ticket twice because Rove et al felt that with him on the ticket, the GOP was doomed. Weird, eh?
Two reasons:
- At the grassroots level, we're doing good things.
- I believe on changing the party from the inside (yeah, I'm an optimist).
And to quote the great Dr. Phil, Howz that workin' out for ya?
So-called "moderate" Republicans frequently refuse to back more conservative Republicans — even when the conservative triumphs in a primary contest.
"They can't win," the moderates complain.
And then, when the conservatives lose — at least in part because the moderates didn't vote for them in the general election — the moderates claim validation of their argument.
"See? We told you he was too conservative to win."
* * *
Yep, that sounds about right… It's high time that moderates check their pants and find a pair…
Perhaps the reason that Republicans will continue struggling is because when a noteworthy Republican makes a statement such as Ridge, they are attacked and compared to Satan. Rather than hammering Ridge as a "traitor," why don't we recognize that his positions are closely in line with the those of the voters and the nation? Toomey can't win because he won't be able to connect with the electoral majorty in the center. Ridge is smart enough to see that. Specter has spent his career governing from the center, therefore, he will be reelected by 20 points.
Meanwhile, fools like Dick Cheney are running around saying that there is no room for moderates in the party. I'm not a moderate and don't think that the party should be controlled by moderates, but without them, there is a permanent GOP minority with absolutely no conservative influence whatsoever.
Ridge is not as smart as either Specter or Toomey. He is a career politician who angles for whatever serves him best. There's nothing for Ridge to gain from supporting Toomey.
Conservatives may have to leave the two-party system and begin courting the electorate to break their habit of voting over and over again for lazy incumbents. CAREER POLITICIANS are the ones who have driven the state of PA and the country into the ground.
AMEN SISTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm a conservative first and a Republican second.
It appears that Ridge is a gutless, low-life, back-stabbing moderate first and a Republican second.
I do recognize that his positions are closely in line with those of the voters and the nation. I also recognize that most of the voters and the nation are lemmings who do not even know what form of government they have, so excuse me if I don't 'fall in line' with the times.
If we run pols who cannot even believe in the platform of the party they belong to, then you might as well not bother campaigning for them. Doing so in that case means you are spending your valuble time and money merely to help someone get a nice job to further their 'career.' Yes that person might win and you get to wear goofy hats and buttons and cheer for a night, but the next morning you are no better off than you were before. Your "conservative influence" will remain what it is today … little bones and soundbytes thrown your way to cop your vote at election time.
Instead of all this labeling, maybe party members from the grassroots, committee folks, and the rest on up should do something REALLY WILD ….um……I dunno…….say…….. read the damn platform for once and decide whether they believe in it or not.
Ridge is not a leader but he is an idiot.
In light of the economic crisis that we find ourselves, has he bothered to look at whose votes brought us to this unprecedented point. It isn't just the radical leftists but the so called moderates who are pushing for more government involvement and more government spending and more government control that have done this to us. People are finally waking to that realization.
Specter stands with the big government crowd. So does Ridge. Toomey provides a stark contrast to the position of the government being the solution. If you don't see by now that big government and compassionate conservatives are part of the problem, then you just aren't all that bright.
RINO Ridge is a Specter republican. Republicans are supposed to be conservative, limited government, low tax type of individuals which Ridge isn't. Don't be suprised if Tommey does well.
You gotta love it when the cocktail sipping country clubbers have events pee in their cheerios. The relics haven't figured out the Rednecks and Joe the Plumbers are the strength of Conservatism and our allegiance is to that and not their good-old-boys club. You guys have about two more years of having your pictures takes in society columns with the big name RINO's you gush at. Then it will be our turn to set the country back on the principles the Founding Fathers get forth.
So you say Toomey can't win because moderate Republicans won't vote for him? So it's not the conservative dems and independents that won't vote for him but those all inclusive big tent blithering MODERATE COUNTRY CLUBBING REPUBLICANS THAT WON'T VOTE FOR HIM. If they stayed true to their "big tent" idea they WOULD vote for him just like many of us conservative rednecks have voted in the past for those liberal republicans. I say good riddance to the traitors that preach we have to be big tenters but they don't. As long as they want to be democrate lite they won't get this vote. No More. Country before party.
They've had years to find a pair. Not going to happen.
Amen and glad you're back.
SO………why do those of you who describe yourselves as conservatives still associate with the Republican Party?
What will it take for you to realize that you are persona non grata and that the party IS NOT INTERESTED in advancing limited government conservatism?
How many times do you have to get kicked in the teeth before you wake up?
Thank you. I still have too much to do to be back here, but I couldn't resist.
Ridge is a team player. The PA Machine Team.
.
It's clear to see that there is going to be a split in the Republican Party. A split of ideals,a split of those that believe in moderate policies and those that believe in conservative policies. I think we may be witnessing the beginnings of a third party. It won't happen over nite but unless a candidate appears who can unite the two factions of the party, there will be a split into third party. Whether the Republican Party is taken over by the moderates( looks that way now) or the conservatives remains to be seen.
For myself, as I have stated before, I don't like abortion and I'm not in favor of gay marriage. But I draw the line at sacrificing my country over those two issues. My feelings are that we must first re-establish a sound monitary and industrial base or we are going to lose our country. I don't believe it's possible to legislate issues of morality. Issues of morality cannot be solved by political means, which in themselves are mostly immoral.
To clarify the above statement, some may get the idea that I'm a moderate. I don't consider myself a moderate. I believe the Constitutions both State and U.S. should be followed to the letter and any elected official that subverts either should be removed from office. How about a recall for Pennsylvania? While they have us all arguing about abortion and Gays, they're busy packing up our industrial base and shipping it off to foreign lands. If we don't put a stop to this, abortion and gay issues won't matter because we will have no means to take care of either.. We need to get our priorities straightened out. Let's demand our churches get to work at restoring morality. About all we have now representing the religious aspect of our country are money grubbing gasbags.
" Issues of morality cannot be solved by political means, which in themselves are mostly immoral."
Very well stated Stephen. Also your comments on the Republicans are at the heart of the matter. This is why the Libertarian Party is attractive to me. You have the same disagreements on moral issues there, but the basic principle you outlined in your statement on morality is what unites them. I am pro life, but as Harry Browne once said "Whatever we believe abortion is, we know one thing: government doesn't work, and it is as incapable of eliminating abortions as it is of eliminating poverty or drugs."
I am so tired of the nitwittery (as Dolly would say. lol) of being a Republican yet having to wait until a candidate is nominated before I even know what the party will stand for in any given year. If you actually believe in limited government, it usually means getting stuck living a lie while you campaign for 'the lesser of two evils'. It's still evil.
I also understand those who want to somehow change the party from within and I wish it could happen. Then I look at the average human life span and………………………lol
BINGO
these are not people interested in party they are more interested and causing chaos
So, your solution is to become Democrat light? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense; worked for McCain didn't it?
What do you care? You're not even a Republican, and hang with a bunch of losers.
And what alternative do you offer? A repeat of McCain 2008?
Nope, you're not a moderate. I doubt you're a Republican, either. You're a troll, that's for sure.
Just found the word "weasel" in the dictionary – had a picture of Ridge there.
