Guess Ridge isn't running for office anytime soon….or ever again.

Ridge is a moron. I guess he would be offended by Limbaugh because he is one of the Rino weasels that has no spine or anything resembling values or ethics. He and others like him are the reason I left the republican party a while ago. The so called "moderates" just don't get it. I will re-register for any primary that has a chance to primary out these weasels then it's back to independent. Why doesn't he and his buddies go after the socialist democrats with the same zeal???? Oh, that's right , because he agrees with them more than he does with what the republican party is supposed to stand for. They make me sick.GRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ridge needs to go away…….and take Powell with him. They are both sickening. Now these clowns are media darlings like McCain only because they speak against the party. They'll be on every Sunday a.m. program and CNN, MSNBC for weeks. Powell was an ineffective Sec of State and HE LEFT THE GOP when he endorsed Obama. He was always an "independent" before he got tapped for Sec of State. He's been a loser for years.

Quinn just reported Collin Piles voted for JFK, LBJ and Jimmy the Peanut Farmer. How dare he call himself a lifelong Republican. I wonder how Ridge voted.
Limbaugh draws endless criticism from those who don't listen to him. This goes to prove the logic and facts he uses is too dangerous to trust to the sheeple of the Left.. They just may eventually see the light.

Right again, Governor Ridge. Rebuilding the GOP with the Limbaugh albatross around our necks will be virtually impossible.

Ridge has got my head spinnng. He attacks Cheney, Obama and Rush Limbaugh if I read all these stories right.

    What is Ridge angling for?

The sergeant's marching cadence looks like two lefts for every right.

In an odd way, one may at least consider approving of Mr. Ridge's consistency. As I understand it, his support of abortion has caused the Bishop of his Diocese to forbid him from taking Communion. Someone who knows more than I may be able to say definitively whether or not this would, in the event of an unexpected passing, keep his immortal soul from Heaven forever.

Anyone willing to take that risk in exchange for a short period of approval from political powers, while not particularly far-sighted, is at least consistent in being willing to risk his own spiritual death while approving/allowing death for unborn children.

I'm going with Freep on this one… those who 'hate' on Limbaugh the most are those who don't actually listen to anything he's ever said – they're simply parrots for the 'cut-and-past' lefty media types. I've actually asked people who hate Limbaugh if they've actually ever sat down and listened to an entire show of his. Invariably, the response is "no." Funny, even THAT doesn't shut them up…

Ignorance is always the loudest voice in the room.

You are right but you can only be a media darling if you criticize the GOP for doing something conservative. We criticize the GOP all the time for being too liberal and we are painted as extremists and nuts.

  19. Posted May 26, 2009 at 3:29 pm | Permalink

Are you on drugs or off your meds?

You support Tom Ridge — a very liberal republican — and Ron Paul — a libertarian who probably disagrees with most of Ridge's positions on everything.

Do you really stand for anything or do you just post to annoy people? Or are you building a case for mental incompetence?

I don't let him annoy me any more. I just ignore him. It's extremely difficult attempting a conversation with a liberal when they spout the same talking points even in the face of facts that refute their line.

  25. Posted May 26, 2009 at 5:27 pm | Permalink

Hmmm… Limbaugh preaches free markets, a colorblind/gender-blind society, personal freedom, the sancitity of life, Constitutional lawmaking, SCOTUS justices that are not activists on the bench. Some albatross. I thought that is what the GOP was supposed to stand for! How can anyone argue against those principles unless you are trying to radically re-engineer society?

Sounds like Ridgie is of the same cloth as Obama if he is going to be this way…

  26. Posted May 26, 2009 at 5:29 pm | Permalink

I think alot of this is just Ridge posturing for a possible run for president with Powell or Graham as a VP. The sad thing is it will probably work and the same knuckleheads who voted for Mccain in the primaries will vote for this jerk or someone of his ilk and…..well you know the rest of the story already.
I wonder if folks in New Hampshire ever notice the irony of their state motto.

    Ray–

Way to go on keeping the debate civil. By implying that I must be "on drugs" or "off meds" or incompetent if have a certain position doesn't move the debate forward as Governor Ridge implied that we ought to do.

I think that Tom Ridge was a very good Governor during his tenure and I think that the Republican Party tent has to be big enough for Tom Ridge and Ron Paul or we'll never win a national election again.

Look… who is a better messenger for the GOP? Guys like Ridge who served their country in Vietnam, served in Congress and as Governor and has always had a record of success or guys like Rush Limbaugh who are in it for themselves and spend their careers tearing others down. Perhaps if you want to talk about being on drugs, you just need to look at Rush's record. At least for him it is a legitimate attack.

  30. Posted May 26, 2009 at 6:46 pm | Permalink

    Comrade Nate:

The reference to being off your meds has nothing to do with your claimed political convictions; rather, it has everything to do with the fact that your support of candidates is so incredibly inconsistent and illogical. Anyone who has read your posts is baffled at how you can be so in love with Tom Ridge and claim to be an adherent of Ron Paul at the same time. These guys are diametrically opposed to each other; is it any wonder we believe you need medication?

As for a better messenger of the GOP, my first question is: why do you, as a non-Republican, care who the better messenger is? My second question is this: if traditional Republican principles espouse low taxes, less government, and tight fiscal spending, how in the world can you even suggest Ridge should be on the 'messemger' short list since he has never advocated low taxes, voted for big government, and blew up the state budget?

"why do you, as a non-Republican, care who the better messenger is?"

I am a Republican… member of the Westmoreland Co. Republican Committee and care very much who the messenger is. I'm out there working to get candidates elected at the precinct level and I know that a party which tries to make its tent smaller is not really capable of advancing its cause.

"If traditional Republican principles espouse low taxes, less government, and tight fiscal spending, how in the world can you even suggest Ridge should be on the 'messemger' short list since he has never advocated low taxes, voted for big government, and blew up the state budget?"

I recall Tom Ridge advocating for lower taxes during his term as governor and both of his gubernatorial campaigns. Please define voting for "big government" and how he "blew up the state budget."

  32. Posted May 26, 2009 at 8:25 pm | Permalink

You'll have to excuse my ignorance with regard to your party affiliation; the fact that you are such an adherent to Ron Paul caused my to assume something which was not correct (and you know what happens when people assume things…).

That said, you haven't really explained the wide dicotomy between your support of Paul and Ridge – they are world's apart on issues.

As for Ridge advocating lower taxes, the proof is in the pudding – he raised taxes as governor and he opposed Reagan's tax cuts in Congress. He advocated big government while in Congress, and after his first year as governor (when he promoted a very tight budget), he rolled over for the specially interests and bloated the thing out of control; he began a legacy that Rendell has simply perpetuated.

And have you forgotten his stadium funding and the Philly shipyard?

  33. Wow...
    Posted May 26, 2009 at 8:29 pm | Permalink

Just an observation…but am I the only one that notices that the "Conservative" comments are generally angry, name calling, pithy comments rather than a counterpoint the the actual position Ridge takes? Ridge was a fine soldier, very solid Governor, an average Homeland Security Director, but most of all the kind of even keel Republican the party seems to have lost to what looks like one really angry bunch with no new solutions…..At core…tax cuts, I'm with you, build busineses, less govt, we see eye to eye…strong defense, the stronger the better…fewer terrorist and rogue nations that way!! But what is being done to enhance these core values?? Social Issues…hey, you can have that, and frankly, it ought to be left to a person, their pastor and their maker . The party has gotten lost in this vitriol.. this huge , "Mind my neighbors business, while being highly upset with anyone that disagrees with you…" mentality that it has lost 80% of the American people to a form of Conservatism Barry Goldwater, William F Buckley and Kevin Phillips would and do find a tad strange…. this form that almost never puts food on the table or tames Government.

  34. Posted May 26, 2009 at 9:09 pm | Permalink

I would love to respond but your comments are all over the board.

Anger? No, just a weary frustration with the ol' RINO hypocrisy of supporting the home team on their terms only. Pithy? You betcha! 'Cause were sick of dealing with "Republicans" like Ridge who don't know what being a "Republican" is all about.

A fine soldier does not a good legislator (or governor) make. He was not a good Congressman, voting against Reagan and with the Democrats every chance he had; he was a less-than-stellar governor (raised taxes, blew the budget, grew state government).

No solutions? Where have you been? Get back to traditional GOP core principles of lower taxes, less government, and less spending! What part of that don't you understand?

  35. Posted May 26, 2009 at 9:45 pm | Permalink

I'm sure Ron Paul is a huge fan of bloated government, automatic COLAs, working with the PSEA to sell out the taxpayers, and selling out principles to grab media attention.

    Oh, wait…

  36. Posted May 27, 2009 at 1:53 am | Permalink

OK Nathan, you're not a liberal. You're merely incoherent. And if you're a member of the Westmoreland Co. Republican Committee that says an awful lot about why the Republican Party in PA is in such disarray. Your kind is the reason the voters are sick and tired of the GOP in general.

  37. Posted May 27, 2009 at 2:03 am | Permalink

Evidently you haven't been paying any attention at all to what the conservatives (and the tea party attendees in general) have been saying. "Mind my neighbors business, while being highly upset with anyone that disagrees with you…" is a textbook description of the libs, not the conservatives. You don't know what you're talking about. Oh, and Kevin Phillips hasn't been conservative for a very long time. Buckley was a good conservative for many years, but a bit elitist; Goldwater went somewhat soft in his dotage. What you claim is "vitriol" is forceful defense of the values and principles that conservatives share with the Founders of this country. If you want to see actual "vitriol" just look at what's directed against us. Angry? No. Determined not to let America be hijacked by Statist/Collectivist ideologies? Definitely!

  38. Posted May 27, 2009 at 3:29 am | Permalink

  41. Posted May 27, 2009 at 3:08 pm | Permalink

    Nathan,

Do you not see the inconsistencies in your support for both Ridge and Paul? It's schizophrenic, at best.

Governor Ridge? A true sign of a sychophant. He's not been governor for about 8 years. He's not been anything for about 4 or 5 years. Why refer to him by a past title? Are you trying to forget the debacle of heading up Homeland Security?

Well, if you think that he was a good governor, you are a minority of one on this board and this now puts you in the same group as Asher, Gleason, and other RINOs. An anti gun, pro abortion, tax hiking lover of big government is not what it takes to be a good governor or even a good man. A good man does not oppose life and liberty.

Big tent BS. The 'tent' is big enough to hold everyone who holds conservative values. You expand the tent by espousing those values and winning people to your philosophy, not by watering down the basic tenets of your beliefs or negotiating them away to win votes.

The Party that is big enough to stand for everything actually stands for nothing. That has been the GOP's problem. They take both sides of the issues and then are surprised when people don't support them just because of the party label. When you win people to a philosophy you win elections. Winning them to a 'party' means, and wins, nothing if the philosophy behind isn't consistent. The dems big tent is all about special rights and benefits for their groups. They all want something and stick together to get it. Their differences lie only in the priority of their demands, not in whether their demands should be fulfilled by government.

Who is the better messenger? Give me Rush any day of the week. He can eloquently articulate our beliefs. Ridge, otoh, not only cannot express an intelligent opinion, does not share our values. Why would I want a Colin Powell — who claims the GOP label, but endorsed the worst anti-American to ever hold the Oval Office?

Rush became addicted to pain medicine. What do you want to do, hang him or just send him to prison?

Speaking of being 'in it for himself', are you now going to defend Specter for all of his 'success' as a Republican who somehow managed to become a multi millionaire while serving in the senate?

  42. Posted May 27, 2009 at 4:59 pm | Permalink

I think that's the problem with Nate – he doesn't understand that an inconsistency exists; for some reason he just can't see it.
