I have to be honest; inasmuch as I like Pittsburgh, I was kind of taken aback by the announcement that these guys would be meeting in the Steel City, especially since it is still in a stage of transition from heavy labor to high tech.

    Maybe payback to Rooney?

Meh…it's just another reason for unemployed college students to riot.

I think Pittsburgh is a good example of the transition can actually happen. It is not pretty and not complete/

Why wouldn't the press laugh?? It's very, very funny.

From the article: "President Barack Obama chose to host the summit in Pittsburgh because of the region's recovery after the collapse of the steel industry, Gibbs said."

Consider the accuracy (sanity?) of using the word "recovery" to describe a city that has: lost 60 % of its population, had all its steel-making capacity disappear, is so deeply in debt that it has to be run by an oversight committee, has a barely-functioning school system, the highest mortgage foreclosure rate in its history, massive unemployment, huge bond obligations, and has most of its property in a tax-exempt status. Only the most deluded leftists could think Pittsburgh to be a laudable example of "recovery".
