i know nothing about orie. while lowman makes good points, on the one hand he is bashing gleason for prodding her into the senate race, while on the other encouraging gleason to dabble in the governors race. he shouldnt be dabbling in anything.
as far as senate i think toomey will be the nominee regardless, and as obama continues to drive the country into the ditch, Pat will have a pretty concise, clear, winning message. the way i see it, it will be corbett who is the anchor around TOOMEY's neck, bumbling around without a clue. but once again gleason and asher are dabbling and could sink two otherwise very good opportunities to take seats back.
"Toomey has earned the right to be the Republican nominee."
I find it funny that Lowman has cried when GOP candidates were encouraged to get out of other races to spare a primary battle, yet that's exactly what he's saying here! What a hypocrite. And making threats if she does run. Exactly the crap he complained about in past statewide races.
Let Orie run. If Toomey is so great…he'll beat her. That's what elections are for…stupid.
"If Orie enters the race, she and Luksik would compete to become the first woman to run as the GOP's U.S. Senate nominee, Gleason said. That could help narrow the gender gap among voters that helped sink the party's last U.S. Senate candidate, Rick Santorum. According to CNN exit polling of the 2006 vote, women voted for Democratic Sen. Bob Casey 61 percent to 39 percent."
Is Gleason trying to insult the women of Pennsylvania? Do you really think women will vote for a woman simply because she is a woman? Some might, but the women I know will be highly offended by this suggestion. WE WILL VOTE FOR THE CANDIDATE WHO MOST CLOSELY REPRESENTS OUR VALUES. Jane Orie is a nanny-state loving nitwit. Peg Luksik appears to want to use the power of the state to impose her social values. Pat Toomey is a limited government, fiscal conservative who professes to be pro-life. If we could make his mind right on judges, and make him understand THERE IS NO ROOM IN THE PARTY FOR PRO-CHOICE POLS, he, yes A MAN, might just be the best candidate.
Gleason, you are a piece of work.
Agreed Corbett will be an anchor around Toomey's neck. Peg Luksik for Gov would be a multiplier.
I think it is Santorum Gleason and Asher is, as far as I have been told, has been true to his pledge of support to Pat Toomey. I can hardly believe I have anything nice to say about Asher but it seems he is good to his words of support.
Santorum Gleason Orie are selling out the party and splitting the party with the only effect being to help Arlen Specter or Joe Sestak November 2010.
Dolley is the best. My kind of woman… clear thinking and straight talking….would that there were more
Dolley, "THERE IS NO ROOM IN THE PARTY FOR PR0-CHOICE POLS" What a stupid comment.
If you want to be a one issue party go join a church.
Santorum didn't lose because of the so called 'gender gap'. He lost because of a credibility gap. He said one thing and did another and GOP women knew that and didn't cast their ballot for him. They *may* have fallen for the perception that Casey was pro life and even pro gun, but now that he has exposed himself on these issues — as well as being an economic idiot, he will have to move onto another job before his next election run.
By then, except for the most loyal sychophants, even democrats will be on to the lies and deceptions of this regime and it's supporters.
I don't go to church but a pol's position on the sanctity of life is one of two litmus tests that I apply.
1] If a pol doesn't believe in 'life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness . . ." he or she won't get my vote, and 2] if a pol doesn't trust the people with their right to keep and bear arms, I don't trust that pol with the reins of power.
I have found that the most of the time if they fail those tests, they will also fail to respect my liberties in every other area. Having GOP candidates holding similar or identical positions to those of Democrats doesn't give me a choice and in that regard, I really am pro choice.
One of,if not the best result of a Toomey win would be the end of Gleason and his outfit.
Ray, I respect your personal litmus test for candidates for public office. But Dolly's remark about no room in GOP was as stupid as Gleason's remark about female candidates.
I suppose that I wasn't clear and that you are not familiar with my beliefs on that subject.
I believe that no pro abortion, or big government compassionate conservative, or anti gun, or 'government is the solution' candidate has any place on the GOP ticket. If a voter holds those beliefs, fine but not candidates.
If the party does not differentiate itself from the dems in meaningful ways, what is the use of even claiming to be different?
Dolley,
Why don't you do something about the supposed "Gender Gap".
RUN
First of all, I am pro-life. However, I believe now is not the time to be cutting people out of the GOP if we actually want to win elections in this state.
Also, wasn't Toomey pro-choice once upon a time. That wouldn't stop me from voting for him.
You guys talk a lot of b.s. What is sad is that you actually believe it…
By the way, won't a primary be good for the GOP with the Dems having a contested primary. Aren't we concerned that Toomey might get forgotten when the media focuses on Specter vs. Sestak.
I like Pat Toomey… but his campaign has been a joke…
He needs to put together a real campaign ASAP!
Does he even have a campaign manager?
Hello!
We are not against a primary. We are complaining about the State GOP trying to entice candidate to run against a conservative because they don't like conservatives and they don't want us little people picking candidates.
Toomey had 1 (ONE, count 'em ONE) vote that was pro choice when he was first elected. Since then, he has been 100% pro life. The realization came to him when he was about to become a father.
First of all, only in your world is Jane Orie not a conservative…
With all your litmus tests, we may as well hand the keys to our government to Obama, Rendell, Specter, Sestak and the Democrat Party forever…
You have to understand that if you utter the word conservative here in the southeast and people run for the hills. And I consider myself conservative. I hope that changes, but I don't think that is going to change by 2010.
In a utopia, Pat Toomey would be elected U.S. Senator next year. My fear is that Toomey will get killed in the southeast next year. Right now, realistically, I think he loses by 10-15 points…
I actually think Jane Orie would do better just because she is a woman.
"I'm pro-life, but…….."
……The Party is pushing a Corbett/Meehan ticket, which MAY work, but concentrates the talent, such as it is. Asher and others are getting nudges from a growing, respectful but insistent Joe Watkins camp to put him in play for Lt. Gov if Meehan does not bite. But the knock is from on high that Watkins is a show horse who can't raise money. Inside story is that Watklins has a real following since his White House days who are looking for the leadership to grow a pair and put new blood in play. Then they will put up their money.
The Welch's (7th Congressional), Craig Williams, the Difrancesco's, Watkins and other under the radar hopefuls of the world are waiting their turn (but not for long, and certainly not Welch) only to watch the same ole get 3-4-5 bites at the apple and go no where……
In what definition of a 'conservative' do you push to expand government power and scope? Apparently, I am not the only one to believe that Jane doesn't live up to her claims. The Liberty Index shows her with an F- and one of the worst in Pa. If you want to argue that they misjudged her on this vote or that, I might buy your argument but what will that bring her up to, a solid F?
All my litmus tests? All TWO of them?
If I were to give up core values so that the GOP can win an election, what do I win? If they don't get the big ones right, what will they do to me on everything else? If we give up our core values, we have given the keys to the left. I'd rather fight and die than to roll over and live on my knees.
If Jane's record in Harrisburg is so bad that she rates an F, just how bad do you think that she'll get in DC where she is further away from her constituents.
Now is the time to point out to the left just what they did to us by voting for this marxist. Many are waking up. You don't even have to preach conservatism. All you have to do is ask them questions regarding what's going on and if they agree with it. Now is the time to stand your ground and point out the failure of the ideas of the leftist elite.
