What an absolute disgrace this man is!
This is one sick and twisted individual. First, he puts the workers in the position they are in, then presents himself as savior.
I'm sure this is evidence of a serious mental illness. No one in their right mind would do this. This is sickening. He is toying with people much as a cat toys with a mouse.
Would anyone with some training or insight into mental health issues care to comment?
Liberalism is a mental disorder.
Rendell speaks of putting a "statue of me up on their mantel place."
He isn't winning friends and influencing people with this kind of garbarge.
How about Ed Rendell bowl blocks for their toilets????????
Will they have to move their Barack Obama statue to make room for Eddie?
They should erect a statue for Eddie, the problem is how can you make one that small?
A phallic symbol on the mantle ? I'll pass.
Indeed it is, but this is something deeper.
Maybe we should just refer to Rendell as Richard Cranium.
Okay. . .
A mental disorder combined with extreme narcissism and criminal intent.
Am I getting closer?
Yup. Much closer.
Yes, he really is sending PA down the drain.

The Gov has become an Autocrat, and stopped being a Democrat. Actually, I've felt that he stopped being a real Democrat years ago. Any forward thinking person of either party would have said back January, or before, that the economy's a real mess, let's start discussing the state budget so we can be ready for July. Now – HRH Rendell is making the economy worse for everyone with unpaid workdays, foot dragging and threats of layoffs. Here's an idea for the royal household: sell the Mansion, cook your own meals, drive your own car, and pay for your own gas and utilities. And I don't want to hear any whining.
The complicity of Republian leadership in House from beginning of 2003 to end of 2007 and the Seante from 2003 to present cannot be ignored. The Republicans enabled the Rendell budgets which set the state for this. and 2008-2009 was, knowingly, voted on by all but one Senator and by all but 30 House members knowing there was insufficient revenue to pay for the spending budgeted. Clearly a vote in violation of the Constitution and common sense. How does the state government spend money it doesn't have?
He has separated Pennsylvania Democrats into two categories, state employees who are given preferential treatment, and the private sector peons.
Most Pennsylvanians are Democrats who don't have state jobs and have zero chance of getting zero interest loans when they're laid off or lose their jobs. Still, they are automatic votes for him and his party, so why should he waste time helping them?
One wonders if, say, laid-off newspaper workers (all Democrats) even notice that they're being treated as worse than second class citizens.

The public doesn't appreciate the job our revered head public servant is doing for us. Doesn't it make you proud to have him in charge of handling your tax money. Congratulations for voting him and all the other devoted public servants back into office so they can continue to do such a superlative job. Who needs term limits when we get such good results from retreads. Hail to public servants in perpetuity,
Why don't we start to ask ethics questions about Rendell? How did his former law firm get enourmos no-bid legal contracts related to the sale of the Turnpike?? No Bid, no outcome. The deal didnt go forward.
Why did he give a $220 M contract to a firm to produce a High School Graduation Test??
I dont want to see anyone lose a job but I beleive his proposed layoffs are actually modest compared to private industry. These reductions are minor!!!!!!!!!!!It is about time permanent cuts are made. We can start with cutting the Congressional Staff. In my opinion if the staff didnt show up for months the government would run and no one would notice the difference. It is time to play hard ball with these thugs.
I am surprised he did not call for a picture of himself in every room of every building in the Commonwealth. That is where this usually leads in other countries.
"Most of those state workers — I've arranged for them to get a $15,000 loan with no interest, so if they're paying off $6,000 worth of credit debt at 14 percent, they should put a statue of me up on their mantel place," Rendell said.
He's telling them to take out these new no interest loans to payoff old high interest debt.
Is he trying to buy them? If they put pressure on the GA to accept his idea of a budget, we lose and he wins but so do those who take these loans. Would about bank stockholders and their profits? Is this even legal? Is it ethical?
If I get a statute of Fast Eddy where would I put the one of B. Hussein Obama?
Now, don’t just blame Fast Eddy. He is able to make comments and get away with it since so many Republicans under his tenure went to the trough. You must reach out to your local and state committee people and demand someone else in 2010.
Excellent questions, Chris. The no-bid Turnpike deal with Ballard Spahr is especially troubling. I've never seen so much BS peddled as truth in my life. Morgan Stanley was complicit too. Their "analysis" was nothing but propaganda. And given the current budget "crisis," if the deal would have gone through, do you think Rendell and the reprobates would have been true to their word…….invested the 12.8 instead of spending it? I don't. Our benevolent betters would have been spending like drunken sailors. Apologies to drunken sailors.
This guy, the gov is over the top. His people aren't around anymore. Jubes and Brites. A lonely lame duck with nobody to turn to.
I can think of some uses for a statue of Rendell. Most of them involve practicing the use of my 2nd amendment rights. If the size matches his ego, it will make practicing very easy.

Obviously, Mr. Rendell is referring to Catholics putting the figures of saints in their homes as reminders of holiness and feels that in the State-centered religion, he is a virtual saint, able to intercede on behalf of the faithful. In this case, St. Ed has interceded to provide his followers with interest-free loans unavailable to those not in his congregation. Jim Jones was similarly revered for giving free land to his acolytes.
As an environmentally-concerned citizen, one must point out some dangers. The icons of Catholic saints are often flanked by candles. Hopefully, St. Ed will recognize the environmental hazards of his followers enlarging their carbon footprints, and will encourage them to surround his own statuettes with small, solar or wind powered bulbs certified to be mercury-free.
I'm a state worker who isn't getting paid. I just applied for my 0 interest loan and was DENIED. I had to cancel a vacation because of this. My kids were really looking forward to going to the beach
I don't think I'll be putting a statue of anyone on my mantle anytime soon…
