Yeah, that's leadership for you "lemme take a poll to see if I have a shot in h**l of not making a fool out of myself"

There are speculative scenarios that make a Joe Hoeffel candidacy viable. Polling will demonstrate whether there are any real world reasons to support that speculation.
grassrootspa has reports of Jim Gerlach attacking Attorney General Corbett on his conflict of interest in the Bonusgate investigation and prosecution. It appears to many, including conservative reformers, that AG Corbett has politicized this prosecution. Corbett is considered the front runner because he has won two state wide races. If Jim Gerlach can take the primary, the dynamic changes because both Jim Gerlach and Joe Hoeffel are from the southeast.
It is also speculated that pro life, gun rights Dan Onorato and pro life gun rights Jack Wagner will be weak in southeast in the Democratic Primary and Joe Hoeffel will be more attractive than lesser known and not as experienced Tom Knox in Democratic Primary.
a Gerlach Hoeffel contest will be a contest of moderates.
Moderates? Joe Hoeffel is the most liberal candidate in the field. There is nothing moderate about him, his record in 10 years as a County Commissioner or 6 as a Congressman or 8 as a State Rep.
He is as left wing as a candidate can be without being a communist or a socialist.
Check the record.
A Hoeffel candidacy is interesting. I really shifts the dynamics. We have never really had a race with to SEPA suburban candidates slugging it out.
To win the primary though, he will have to run to the left. Onorato and Wagner divide the western PA vote, which means nothing as seen in Rendell v. Casey anyway. Knox can dump tons of cash into this race though.
Hoeffell wouldn't have to run to the left he would simply have to stand still. The guy blindly follows liberal economic policies and has single handily destroyed Montco's AAA bond rating
last time I looked the bond rating was still AAA.
I know. Why are you calling him a moderate Bob?
Ratings just mean they pay a fee to get what they want – all the while holding a "surplus" of taxpayer money – which any fiscal conservative finds problematic. What did the ratings do for corporate and asset-backed securities? The Aaa rating has a direct cost to taxpayers – an ongoing $30 million+ surplus ( which always gets spent) – and no one has proven that holding $30 million of taxpayer money (and then spending it) vs. lower interest on debt – is absolutely beneficial. If Montco's Aaa rating is in jeopardy because they spent the rating agency's required "rainy day fund", well my point is made. Remember, the US Government and Montgomery County's debt is rated triple-A because of the government's 'full faith, credit and taxing power"….right now, for Montgomery County (and Chester County) "full faith" and "credit" get you only so far….then, you are left to the "taxing power".
Do you feel better now, knowing they spent more – while income was going up – and their last dose of medicine will be raising your taxes? At this point, the triple-A rating is equivalent to "do I lease or buy" a car – your screwed no matter what.
Forget about the triple-A rating…if everyone is questioning the US Government debt ratings, I assure you that Montgomery County (and Chester County) are going to have their ratings lowered, too!
Bond ratings do not just change overnight. If you look at Montco's finances you will see they have blown through all of their surplus money by ironically taking out more bonds. These same bonds will now have an increased interest % when the bond rating goes down (which it will next year) and the county will be forced to raise taxes to make up for the fiscally irresponsible policies of Hoeffel and Matthews.
Why not make it an all southeast race. Hoeffel/Shapiro vs. Gerlach/Meehan….
sorry, I was unclear "moderate" is the term the MSM usees for socialists. He is perceived as "moderate" because that is how media perceives socialists and MontCo elected him three times as US Congressman and as MontCo commissioners. I think the voters perceive him as moderate.
An FYI on Hoeffel: during one of his campaigns in Montco he actually questioned the rights of pro-lifers to distribute literature leading up to and on Election Day (he either has not heard of the First Amendment or wants to apply it selectively) . Simply put, not only is he far left on economic, labor union and tax issues, he may accurately described as a running dog for the interests of the abortion lobby.

Joe Hoeffel is a southeast Penna. Liberal Democrat, isn't he? That's who gets elected here. BTW, Jim Gerlach gets Union money. Why?
