We are ready and able to take back the 7th in 2010. We don't want another Democrat carpetbagger.
Welch is a Republican carpetbagger in the other district. Do the political bosses always have to screw good candidates?
In what way is Welch a "carpetbagger"?
Welch is an opportunitist Welch lives in the Meehan district but he changed his mind and is running in the district he does not live in. Oh yeah it is not across the street as he pretends There is a big river and very different demographics separating the two districts and his residence. The divide is as big as the city of Harrisburg vs. the better (not perfect) government on the west shore of that river!
new meaning to an old word: "Welcher" = carpetbagger
Welch lives in a palatial property in one of the Montgomery County Provinces. He is misusing Phoenixville to appeal to Ridley Park, etc.
He is trying to float his magic carpet across the Skoo-kill Riva'
In demographic terms, he represents the 6th better anyway. He is white, wealthy, and highly educated. All three things are more common in the 6th.
Last time I checked, he was running in the 6th, which does not include any of Delaware County let alone Ridley Park.
I love the class hatred shown by some.
Sorry, Ryan! I'll try again…"Welcher" = Carpetbagger.
Let's have Delaware or New Jersey take Rendell. Geographically, he is close to them, even though Philly is just over the river, or around the bend.
Any takers?
Bloomberg bought the Republican nomination for Mayor of New York City.
He has shunned the Republicans since he purchased his nomination.
Be careful what you wish for.
Really, I think residency issues are way overblown. It's one thing if the candidate/politician lives in a different state (has moved permanently to the D.C. Metro area, etc.–cue the Rick haters), but we're talking about gerrymandered districts that overlap and intersect to an extent that defies reason. For example, I used to live in Malvern, Chester County. My portion was in the 7th, but literally across the street, you'd be in the 6th. Same applies to Phoenixville and any other number of areas. I had thought all of Phoenixville was in the 6th (being Chester County), but I guess Welch's portion is in the 7th. I'm willing to give Welch a fair hearing; everybody else should, too. I think he's got a lot to offer.
Nah. If we want fair, you would live in a district that you want to run in. Simple. Not messy. He should move into the 6th if he wants to run in the 6th. Just because he feels like he can't beat Meehan, he wants to be a Welcher.
Nobody cares. Schwartz did not live in her district when elected.
Odds are the SEPA districts will be redrawn by time 2012 rolls around anyway.
I could care less where he lives as long as its in the same state.
To show how gerrymandered the lines are, lets look at my life. I live in Bryn Mawr, Radnor Twp, Delaware County, but on the county and district line. I walk one block I am in Lower Merion Twp, Montgomery County where my church and train station are, but still in Bryn Mawr. I go to school on the line and district cross it four times between my house and the law school, which is only 8 blocks away. More insanely, I have to cross the district and county line to vote in my county and district.
The district lines are so messed up in this area that you drive down Lancaster Ave and see one block with 7th district signs then the next you see 6th district signs then you see 7th again a few more blocks down the road.
It was not like the GOP had anyone else in NYC.
