What's surprising is that it is only 5.
Not at all surprising is that one was Bud George.
From what I understand Orie's vote was not necessary for the tax increases to pass.
Why did she break her pledge? Simply because she is in leadership?
Maybe because she is an adult, and thought it might be a good thing to pass a budget sometime even if the result is a flatly deceitful press release from ATR.
I guess that it's because her word isn't worth much, or at least for very long.
Maureen,
I don't understand. Did she make a pledge? Did she break it? If she did make it and then break it, where is the deceitfulness in the press release?
Why did she even make the pledge in the first place if she didn't intend to keep it? Does her word mean anything?
Can you help to clear up my confusion over your remarks? Thanks in advance.
So, let me get this straight: if you make a promise it is okay to break it for the sake of expediency?
Such reasoning is bankrupt of any sense of morality and you should be embarrassed by even suggesting it.
If you disagree with Jane's vote, you can show your displeasure by voting against her sister.
I know she can't help it, but Orie does have a nasty look perpetually pasted on her face…
Why should we expect a person that swears to up hold the Constitution and then use it for toilet paper to keep their word on any promise they make ? Almost to a person, we have liars and oath breakers running our government, both State and Federal.
Four dirty Democrats broke a pledge here.
As for Jane Orie, to think that Gleason and Company at GOP HQ were trying to foist her on us as our next United States Senator.
The Republican Party in this state needs housecleaning.
Jane seems to be doing everything she can to harm Joan's vote. Flirting with a primary against Toomey, breaking her ATR pledge. Is this why they call the GOP the stupid party?
The sisters Orie are very close and Senator Jane Orie campaigns with Judge Joan Orie Melvin. The closeness leads to a inference that they share a view that it is acceptable to break a promise for expediency and, in Judge Melvin's case, to override the Constitution to get a "good" result.
The expediency of passing a budget with a tax increase after promising not to vote for such an expedient budget is very worrisome. I am trying to find reasons to vote Republican on November 3d and Senator Orie complicates my argument. Some think "a promise made is a promise kept" and that upholding the oath of our elected to uphold the Constitution is the ultimate promise. It seems the elected do not agree.
I'm sure that Jane's switch was due in some part to the fact that the Senate Rs are trying to muster as much support for the budget bill(s) as possible and, as party whip, Orie is charged with getting those votes. It would be hard for her to do her job get support for a budget bill that is blatantly contradictory to her pledge – thus I am sure she broke this pledge in order to save her own hide by being able to fulfill her leadership duties.
liar liar pants on fire
Aside from Maureen's confusing remarks, all good observations. But, do you think any significant number of voters will remember this broken pledge even a month from now? If you still believe the Republican Party is part of the solution, you are very, very gullible or totally delusional.
How vulnerable are the 4 House Democrats?
Will any of them be in danger of losing their seats because of the tax hike vote and broken pledge?
Gotta start running for local and state GOP committee; only way to clean out the house is to walk thru the door.
Well, let's just say it is yet another reason to add to the growing pile.
Yeah, but if she can't abide by her previous commitment, then she should have declined the leadership role.
And your alternative is…?
Heck, no! Democrats thrive on deception and evil.
Yes! Hopefully we can get the judge who has 100percent rating with philadelphia trial lawyers!!! You people are amazing.
