So Schroder has significantly less money than everyone.
Curt Schroder has a lot of "investors" compared to what Welsh and his family contributed.
Also notable is the fact that very few of Welsh's contibutors live in the district.
The only positive I see from Welsh's finance report is that he has a bunch of venture capital investors, and they won't be real pissed-off when Welch looses. They are used to one-out -of 50 results.
"Welcher" = carpetbagger
Welcher=carpetbagger. Sez it all.
Do people even know the boundaries of our heavily gerrymandered districts? Nope.
For example, you can drive between Exton and Philadelphia on US 30 and cross the boundary between the 6th and 7th districts over half a dozen times.
Schroeder is tested. He has a good record. Schroeder is the good guy. He led the charge to reform back in the Perzel years. Yeah, he's not perfect neither was Ronald Reagan as some of the posters are are fond of saying. With Schroeder – he's tested. He has votes and an overall good record. With Welch who knows – Bloomberg bought a nomination on the R side. Corzine bought one on the D side. Does any taxpayer think they got better government. Two rich guys, Bloomberg & Corzine, who had no record but who pandered party bosses and then screwed taxpayers.I like to know if I'm getting honesty in return for my vote. With Schroder I know. Welch needs to take his wealth to somewhere like Massachusetts. The R's up there will accept somebody untested who wants to give it a roll. I'm tired of politicians screwing us after elections. Welch is a non=starter.
Schroder voted to take out Perzel. That’s enough right there. Talk is cheap. He has a great record, so if Pa 6 wants a statesman, Schroder’s it.
Schroder has made a fine showing for himself with his fundraising effort.
Welch has a decision to make ( which in the game of politics) is different than his "start up" does he continue to throw good money after bad.
Schroder's name recognition and service to his constituents (and now his fundraising capability) will prove that Welch be no match in the primary.
"Welcher" will be the moniker for carpetbagging, as Charles Ponzi's "Ponzi Scheme" did for fraudulent investments schemes.
Welcher = carpetbagging
What a solid fundraising performance Schroder registered compared with Welch who loaned himself $500,000 in an effort to buy the district.
Schroder's money came from over 300 people who contributed because they believe in him.
Welch only himself, his family and some venture capital vultures.
Schroder proved that he will be a formidable fundraiser, as he raised his money in the summer, in a bad economy, before the November election cycle – all only since June.
Sorry to interupt the blogging by “experts.”
Here are the facts:
1. Doug Pike has over $750,000 on hand. Cry all we want: its his money and he will use it to win. So, money does matter.
2. Welch grew up in Chesco. Ran his business in Chesco. And technically lived one property “oustide” of cd-6. He’s hardly a carpet-bagger.
3. Welch’s fortune is self-made. Not handed to him. He had an idea. Ran with it. Grew a business and hired employees. Creating wealth and opportunity. No silver spoon. Actual, bona fide capitalism. Why do so many “conservatives” want to criticize him???
4. Welch has, to date, put up $500k of his own money. And raised almost as much as Curt. He is the only GOP candidate who is in a position to fight Pike dollar for dollar.
5. Curt voted for the pay raise. He’s a good man, but not a true reformer.
6. Welch is a real capitalist, with a business record, community record–and the resources and commitment to win.
Now, feel free to go back to attacking our own, if you wish. Doug Pike + co., are smiling.
Listen folks 100,000 is not great number
Pike is going to spend a lot of his own money I am concerned about us having an equal footing and the NRCC should not have to spend too much on this race
self funding is not always bad thing
Did Welch get bored with his yacht or golf now he thinks congress would be a better hobby. Didn't he contribute to Sestak and some other Socialist (Obama?). I need a Congressman with I record I can count on not somebody seeking a new hobby.
Schroder outperformed. Simple. Raised more money than Welch. Simple.
Schroder is a public servant with an excellent record. Simple
Welch should stop, while he still has his money.
Reading through this, folks are missing the point.
The Democrat–a former Inquirer editorial writer– has over $750,000 so far.
In nine months, Schroder–a nice fellow, who’s never, ever run in a competitive race–has raised just over $100,000, and has a whopping $80,000 to spend on his congressional race.
Do the math: $750,000 beats $80,000 every time.
Schroder barely has enough money to run for a competitve, open state house seat…let alone Congress
He may be great, he may be horrible, he may be just average.
Regardless: he doesn’t have the money to win and hasn’t the poltical experience to win this seat.
Jim Gerlach has needed between $3 and $4 million to win this seat. Schroder will never have that money.
And all the screaming and blogging in the world won’t change that.
We need a congressman not someone seeking a new hobby.
Schroder has a predictable record of conservative reform. Welch and his checkbook might turn out to be John Corzine in drag.
Why is it that so-called conservatives and so-called reformers jump all over successful self-made businessmen when he/she runs for office?
Why do these so-called reformers, who rail against career politicians, greet first-time candidates with disdain?
Doesn’t make sense…unless there is an agenda aside from real reform and a respect for capitalism.
Can’t it be the case that these are two good guys, each with his own good qualities, but that Welch may be in a better position to win?
Shouldn’t Schroder stay in Harrisburg, where we clearly still need reformers, and have Welch go to Congress, and bring a true businessman’s perspective to the Capitol?
Huh? What? No political experience? Where are you from, Mars? Schroder has been elected about 12 times. Huh?? No political experience?
You must be one of those guys Welsh is paying money to, whereas I am someone who voted for Schroder 12 times+.
Two ways to vote – your vote or your contributions. Welch is obviously chicken to test the voters with fundraising Welch would probably come up empty on fundraising So he plays trust me – I don't trust any candidate but at least I know what I get with Schroeder. He has a record. Welch could be another Corzine with a big personal checkbook.
Who is Welch Welch never cast a vote Welch contributed to Sestak I'm done with taking elections on faith.Show me the beef
Roll the dice – Welch has no record Casino money will flow to Welch. Casino owners are mad at Schroder for his reform measures and opposition. Is Welch the roll the dice candidate in more ways than one?
Like voting for pay raises . There's the reform we need.
He's never had a serious election outside the first time he ran.
$87,000 will be used for mustache grooming. Where will the rest of Schroder's money come from?
He has no shot at this nomination.
If you lived one property away from Texas you could live in Mexico but for the Rio Grande river. If you lived one property away from Philadelphia you could live in Camden, New Jersey but for the Delaware River. Welch apparently lives across the Schuykill River from the district he seeks to represent. I don't consider that one property away. I guess Welch has a beachfont Schuylkill river Montco house if his posting is only stretching the truth and not going beyond stretching. It's a big river. the Schuykill is but OK federal rules don't require residency to represent a district. Welch may be OK also. But cut us a break if you want to promote Welch. He doesn't live one property away from cd-6 except by river barge. For Pittsburgh folks the districts and geography are way different than the jump to the Northside from downtown or the train ride to 'Station Square. Please pardon us as big rivers are big divides politically in the east.
That’s what you want? A dude who’ll be loaded with casino money? Remember the Peterson seat, where two rich guys nuked each other in the primary? Welch+Pike=seat-buyers. You want that, vote for one of them. You want a statesman, you vote for Schroder.
“Previous Post” …. not to be pedantic, but the 6th is on both sides of the Schuylkill.
Why didn't Welch run in the 7th where he lives?
This is a simple question with a simple answer. Don't give me the BS about "he almost lives there", either.
Why didn't Welch just run in the 7th? He could have put his"business skills" to work in the 7th. No, Welch just crumbled under the duress of Meehan.
Just what we need, a guy rich enough that he caves in when gets frightened. How do you think this type of congressman would help us?
This ain't business folks, this is government. We need people who won't run at the first sight of blood.
or
Is Richie Rich taking his ball somewhere else to play?
At least when Schroder gets his paycheck, it will be deposited into a bank in the district. He pays his mortgage in the district. He shops in the district. His kids go to school in the district. He will even pay his taxes in the district. and on and on…
Close your eyes and just think about it….
Any questiosn?
Alex C First PAwatercooler.com rocks! Thanks for hosting it. I guess the geography issue revolves more around Welch trying to hide or smooth where he lives . Is it even a Phoenixville address on the Montco side? Perhaps the skating by Welch has blown this up. I just prefer politicians to be up front. Should you find one please let all of us know. Thanks for PAwatercooler.com Great site
I didn't realize there are so many Curt Schroder fans on this site. From what I've seen, Curt is about as honest and straightforward as professional politicians get. He would probably make a good congressman. However, Welch isn't running on a whim. He has many powerful supporters in the party. If party insiders chose the candidate, it would almost certainly be Welch. Both the primary and general election will be a referendum on how well the Ds manage the national opinion polls. If things continue to deteriorate and conservatives get motivated, Curt has a shot. Otherwise, look for Welch in the primary and Pike taking the seat next November. Personally, I'd like to see Schroder in Congress, but right now, he looks like a long shot to me.
@ Get a Clue:
Schroder raised a decimal point more money than Welch. That's the fact.
And an interesting thought I just had about Welch self-funding: What's keeping him from using his connections and wallet to help raise money for Schroder after Welch loses? Nothing, really. And that's what he will do.
That is, it is what he will do if he really cares about reform. If he's just a political opportunist, then he won't, in which case you didn't want him as your congresscritter anyway.
Well Steve pays property taxes that go to fund a school district that is largely in the 6th district. Does that work?
I
Curt voted for the 2005 pay raise.
He's no conservative.
Schroder=payjacker
