Funny, Corbett did this too when he ran against Castor. He was Pro-Choice then turned to be Pro-Life when he had to….true leaders standing up for their convictions. Go get 'em Melvin…we need this seat
When was Corbett pro-choice? Castor was his first race, where is he on the record before that? Your number of anti-corbett posts makes me think you are a gerlach plant.
Corbett was pro-choice prior to running against Castor. That's a fact.
Here again the PA Pro-life Federation DROPS THE BALL. They have done NOTHING to inform their constituency that Panella is now apparently pro-abortion.
Can Judge Panella be trusted in switching positions for opportunistic, political reasons?
Tom Corbett has always been pro-life. But good try to decieve.
As I have said many times… That SKUNK will do anything to get elected… including selling children to Juvie Halls…
Can we just wipe the supreme court roster clean and start again? Let's pick random names out of a hat full of lawyers who've been in practice for 10 years or more. Draft them for one year or maybe two years of service and discharge them. Discard their names. Add lawyers to the hat who've practiced for that 10th year……… Repeat. We'd have more justice and less BS if this is the way we constituted the court. Maybe lawyers without political baggage would have seen the gambling bill for what it was, the payraise for what it was, The Capital Facilities Debt Enabling Act for what it was, etc. The Supreme Court is a cesspool.
May G-d have mercy on this Commonwealth.
We pro-lifers have encountered these types of politicians who claim to be pro-life then become "pro-choice" when opportunity beckons that we developed a joke. Picture two pro-lifers. One asks the other What kind of coat does (insert the name of a politico here, in this case "Panella") wear? The other pro-lifer replies, a TURNcoat. Enough said about Panella.
Flip-flopping to win elections is important nowadays.
The PA Pro-Life Federation always told us Brightbill was Pro-Abortion until his seat was at stake after the payjacking. Then he became Pro-Life in the PA Pro-Life Federation’s eyes.
Melvin is a priority for the GOP but since her in-law Jane Orie voted along with a lot of other GOP senators for tax hikes, I have to think about what to do.
Politics as usual stinks and they are unwilling to change.
Senator Argall wants us to elect House members every four years instead of two. Trying to insulate them from the voters so they can do mischief.
Those GOP insider guys are against the people and they turn around and try to emotionalize us to vote against Panella.
I’m not biting.
Panella is running slash and burn ads. He doesn't deserve to be on Pa's highest court.
Paula Ott Only statewide candidate not recommended by her own county Pro-Life group. Chesco Pro-Life recommended almost the whole R slate. Ott's left out. They did not recommend a Democrat alternative just left her out – Glaring apparently deliberate omission. Anybody know more on this? Does it go further to her insisted upon 20 million cost overuns on Chesco's new Courthouse including the extra million for the Judge's personal elevator. Those rides probably cost more per ride than the taxpayer subsidy for Amtrak rides.
One must wonder what his polling is saying to be running such ads.
I suppose we need to have a Supreme Court because the Constitution mandates it, but do we have to have lawyers sit on the bench?
The rulings that they have handed down are so blatantly political that they are an embarrassment to anyone with a brain and common sense. Picking individuals at random from a phone book could hardly result in worse results.
Be that as it may, the Dems are all-in here because of reapportionment in a few years. They want the 4-3 majority and not or just bragging rights, either. Re pro-life, even Veon said (lying of course) that he was pro-life because it ‘plays’. Stopping Panella needs to happen.
Funny how I always thought that true conservatives wanted less government in our lives. But you want the government to tell all women what they can and can not do with their own buddies. Now how hypocritical is that people? You can not have it both ways and just twist in the wind when it suits you. You are either conservative or you want the government to take over the majority of the country's population's bodies. How could a woman actually support this notion? Woman should be embarrassed that people actually propose the government taking over your bodies. What age are we in people?
We are endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights, amongst these are LIFE, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness . . .
Does that ring a bell?
Women have a right to do what they want to their own bodies, but not with the new and distinct body that grows within them. They have lots of choices up until then to prevent them from becoming pregnant.. Their 'choices' end the moment that they become pregnant.
Melevin has done a great job in visiting all of the NW PA counties and explaininng her background and basic beliefs. Panella hasn't bee any where near our county. Is he only interested in the one section of PA? We have no idea about his background to be Supreme Court Justice; however, we know that Melvin would be an up-front honest Justice. Our area will be very strong for Melvin on Tuesday.
Yes, I think we need lawyers on the bench. We need the safeguards of procedural due process and an ability to separate ones emotions from the facts and the law. Given that we just elected Obama, I don't think the population at large has the first clue, second clue or a third clue about the real meaning of our Constitutions, procedural due process, or the ability to THINK rather than emote.
Paraphrasing Mike Adams of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, cleaning it up for this post: "…If you were forced to examine the remnants of an aborted baby boy, would you or could you please tell me what part of of a woman's body encompasses the child's male genetalia?"
The biggest lie you people peddle is this: "Without the so-called "right" to kill her unborn child, women have no choice." BULL. A woman chooses whether to engage, with whom, where, when, whether to use BC. After those points of choice, the baby's life must take precedence over any desire she may have to end the child's life.

Planned Parenthood has it absolutely backward.
Pro-Life organizations promote real choice—choosing life!
Groups like Planned Parenthood promote death, killing babies.
It's no more a rightful choice to kill a baby than it is to say
hitting people over the head with a baseball bat is OK
because that's what someone chooses to do.
It's impossible to practice vice with virtue.
Planned Parenthood endorses death, not reproductive healthcare.

lumping all judges as bad and all lawyers as bad is as offensive as saying all black people or all women are bad…it is emotion and anger over logical reasoning
PA Moderate needs a quick lesson in Political Philosophy 101, so here goes. Are you ready, Mod? A true conservative does in fact want less government, but a true conservative also realizes a fundamental fact of human nature, namely, it is basically selfish and self-regarding. That noted, a true conservative understands that , to create a society given over to civic peace (in plainer English society wherein human beings behave as rationally and as disposed to put the good of others over self as far as possible, given the limits of human fallibility), the power of the moral educator must be increased. So the most effective formula for limited government is as follows: a population trained in and that values the character traits needed to allow people to live together and practice citizenship without resorting to violence against one another) MUST be in place to allow limited government to begin and allow it to be maintained from generation to generation. The notion that PA Moderate and his leftist buddies espouse, namely, that limited government means allowing individuals to do as they please, especially sexually, is a formula with failure built right into it because it rests upon the old, liberal notion (that dates clear back to the so-called "Enlightenment" that human nature is basically good and kind and that "society" corrupts it. This notion, Mod, is at the heart of both libertarianism AND Marxism, which is why these ideologies are doomed to failure when tried out by a government or political party.
To get specific, a true conservative is a pro-lifer because he/she understands that the unborn represent the greatest natural resource any nation can ever possess, its, future. And what resource could more worth conserving? Capeesh?
Now that you are talking about switching, Arlen Specter switched, didn’t worry about the people he betrayed, and Panella won’t either.
Why on earth would you hold Judge Melvin accountable for something her sister did in an entirely different branch of government? Judge Orie Melvin has given her pay-raise back to the Treasury, and was the only Judge to fight the pay raise to begin with.
Mr. Panella, on the other hand, is a proven flip-flopper…. Pro-Life and endorsed by the state pro-life groups until it became politically expedient to become pro-abortion and grovel to PLANNED PARENTHOOD for thier endorsement…
Again….. what a SKUNK.
I still can't understand how killing your child is considered a choice and a women's rights issue. I can unfortunately understand that our elected leaders have no integrity or soul and are bought and sold like something from the black market. Doesn't a child have the right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness? Soon a developing human (fetus) will be murdered after delivery in order to reduce the risk of complications during the abortion (ie murder) to the mother I mean murderer. Since it's already done a few months before delivery they will argue "why not just do it after the child is born".
A country that lacks the respect for life lacks the respect for freedom and liberty.
I suppose that you're right. I just tire of their lack of regard for the Constitution. Which is worse, not knowing or knowing but disregarding what's right?
I think that I'd chance dumb over evil.
I have known Judge Panella my entire life. He is a great person–one who is independent, experienced, fair, and dedicated. He is a mentor–a leader–someone who will rule on each case with the utmost impartiality. He will be an asset to the Supreme Court. Pennsylvania NEEDS HIM!
Since you know him so well, maybe you can tell us what his position is on abortion instead of just posting a soundbite.
Why does it have to be lawyers? So far, we haven't had such good luck with them being in charge. Maybe we should just look for some "regular" people who have COMMON SENSE, because THAT is what is lacking.
Hey now! What connection does he have to that?
Because that's a pretty incendiary charge, you gotta have something to back it up.
Jane Orie is her sister.
