Al Schmidt ran an excellent campaign, energized the Republican Party, and sent the message to the entrenched establishment in both parties that the watchdogs for the public good aren't going anywhere. Taking a closer look at the numbers in Center City (5th Ward), Schmidt got 41% there as opposed to DA candidate Mike Untermeyer's 30% and Joan Orie Melvin's 26%.
