If Holden votes for Odamacare he will be deadman walking in that district, I'd consider it to if I were him

Geographically, Argall would cut right into Holden's home turf.

With how Republican the seat is, Holden would have trouble holding onto the seat.

Holden voted NO for the Healthcare bill. He was one of 39 Democrats who voted against it.

  4. Posted November 10, 2009 at 5:41 pm | Permalink

Yes he did, this time, we all know that this will be in front of the house again and he will have another opportunity to vote for it. Not saying he will I'm just saying that if does vote for it in any way shape or form it will cost him.

Finally. The fact the GOP has not challenged Holden seriously shows the general level of stupidity in the leadership ranks.

  6. Posted November 10, 2009 at 6:20 pm | Permalink

Don't kid yourselves, folks: Argall did not come up with this on his own.

Brightbill's brother-in-law and Jubes old hack chief-of-staff talked him into this, and was working to try and clear the deck for Argall ala Lynn Swann and the GOP four years ago. Where did that get us?

Argall is a stooge of the establishment and if he runs we can only hope that real candidates like Ryan and Shirk demonstrate that Argall is just another patsy of the RINOs.

Who gives a rat's rear end about Holden's home turf? It's freakin' Schulykill County!

The ONLY reason the GOP hasn't been able to take on Holden is because the GOP leadership were too busy counting the pollups in their colons.

Clear the GOP leadership out of the way and watch things happen!

Argall will not run. Period. Little Dave will never do anything that requires guts, risk and hard work. His role in Bonugate will soon be clear. Holden keeps this seat as long as he wants it.

Argall and Holden have been joined at the hip for years. It's a Schuylkill Co. deal thing. Take care of me, I take care of you. Parties and principles are not an issue, the deal is everything. The only way they could ever lose is in a primary.

I'm tellin' you, folks – this whole thing is being engineered by Mike Long, either as a desperate effort to try and reinsert himself into a political campaign or because he has been paid off by Holden to screw up the GOP primary between Shirk and Ryan.

And 'wsmith' is absolutely right: Argall doesn't have the guts to try a competitive run for anything. He only involves himself in 'sure things'.

  13. Posted November 10, 2009 at 9:14 pm | Permalink

Just throwing this out there that I have it from people pretty close to Argall that he has not met with Mike Long on this, he has had conversations with big time names, but they tell me Mike Long is not one of them.

Two good candidates are already announced for Holden's seat: Josh First from Dauphin County and Frank Ryan from Lebanon County. Argall won't run.

  15. Posted November 10, 2009 at 9:31 pm | Permalink

Then Argall may want to tell ol' Long to shut his trap because he's been running around telling anyone who will listen that he's not only running Argall's campaign but will be talking any and all potential primary opponents out of running themselves – much in the same way he and Brightbill blundered the race when Paterno ran.

  16. Posted November 10, 2009 at 9:38 pm | Permalink

Hadn't heard about Josh First before – this is the "first" time his name has been mentioned beyond the confines of the People's Republic of Dauphin.

I knew Frank Ryan was going to run. Matt Shirk, also of Lebanon County, has organized a campaign committee, so that makes three.

The more the merrier, as far as I'm concerned. It's time to knock Holden out once and for all.

Long’s now hooked up with Scarnati’s guy Nyquist. Don’t kid yourself they can’t split the baby (two conservatives against each other) and push Argall through. Between the two, Argall and Holden? It’s a big who cares.

if I remember correctly, Argall voted for the PA legislature's middle of the night pay grab. If true, he won't dare show his face in Lebanon county, will he Russ?

Why swap a guy who doesn't have a clue about how to get anything done in Washington for a guy who doesn't have a clue about how to get anything done in Harrisburg?

Holden and Argall will tear each other up in the Skook. The rest of the district will be neglected. Holden will win by default based on name recognition if Argall gets the party's nod. Argall doesn't have a chance.

Argall can't even win the Skook. Why would those folks vote to give another job to a guy who they just gave a new job? His ambition will cost him full points of the vote up there.

Who in the hell is Josh First? A web search reveals very little — a conservative environmentalist? Is that even a concept? I've seen Matt Shirk in action. He's an embarrassment. No chance at all.

Frank Ryan, on the other hand, strikes me as a very serious man with a real shot at Holden

    What is Ryan's status?

Ryan is the Bob Dole candidate: Military record and it's my turn goddammit, all the way. Has he really been running for the same seat for eight years? Didn't the voters already speak? Not once and done? Holden needs to go, but can he really get that done? Doubtful.

  20. Posted November 11, 2009 at 4:29 am | Permalink

Ryan has not run for the Holden seat since he was boxed out by Brightbill, Long, et al via Paterno. Lots of talk about thinking of running but never got his feet wet. He's going to have to get off of the hopper soon, though, if he is serious.

Googled Josh First and found nothing.

Googled Matt Shirk and found this:

Argall is a GOP insider and not a conservative.

Unless we send real conservatives to Washington, things will never change period.

    Is this a weasel alert?

Wouldn't be surprised if this rumor was a Mike Long plant. A couple of calls and questions reveals that Ryan worked very hard to unseat Brightbill following Chip's involvement in the 2004 Paterno debacle. As Chip's bro-in-law, Mike has some scores to settle, too.

here's how i see it right now:
    (-)
argall- forced by gop. he is safe in skook. should sit back and enjoy that.
    first- ummm… who?
    ryan- what an ego!
shirk- no experience in politics… none.

    (+)
argall- would split skook, and threaten timmys base.
    first- i'm tying, but still…. ummm… who?
ryan- seems to have done his homework for this.
    shirk- ambitious citizen.

Iirecommend the gop get behind one of these guys and get him to where he needs to be quickly! it might be a good idea for them to not contribute to Holden's campaign, too… just a thought
