Gee whiz. Who'd have ever thought that one politician seeking higher office would say wonderful things about another politician seeking higher office in order?
Mr. Watkins smells to me.
Besides being an MSNBC commentator last year.
Did Smerconish recommend him for that gig?
Is he a Bob Asher-Renee Amoore co-production?
The one thing I heard for sure about Watkins is that he ran against Santorum in the GOP US Senate Primary in 1994 as a Pro-Choice (PRO ABORTION) candidate.
Does anyone remember Lynn Swann ? He did not get any black votes and he got crushed . So will this unknown unless Corbett foolishly picks him , which is entirely possible.
CARDCARRYPSEA,
Joe Watkins is a Pro-Life Republican….Period. You would KNOW this if you were from the Philadelphia area and heard his radio show in 2004, or his MSNBC talking head rants when it came to the issue, or any other time you cared to pay attention to his actions as opposed to going on what you heard……So PLEASE get your facts straight, please!! This is the third or fourth time I've seen your commentary, and this time, it looks like an attempt to defame the man, easy does it….and to Ex-Rep….he may be unknown to you, but from what I'm hearing, some of the counties are asking to see him see they can make a clear cut choice as they like 3 maybe 4 of the LG candidates with Joe included each time….
Watkins and his little group of supporters are fooling themselves. No one in the GOP is taking him seriously.
…..except for that fast growing bunch of Facebook signers and Twitter Followers got on his new website…. http://www.watkins2010.com
…and YouTube Vid….

Regarding Joe Watkins and his abortion position……
My source says he has a copy of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation voter guide that shows Watkins in the 1994 primary as “Pro-Abortion.”
Let me admit the Pro-Life Federation can be biased when it annoints a candidate like it did Santorum in 1994. But let me continue.
Watkins got around 24 or 25 percent of the vote I am told running against Santorum. I’m sure it had to come from the Philly area RINO Republicans.
Watkins ran knowing that Santorum was wrapping the Pro-Life flag all around his body and where would it be logical for Watkins to have drawn his support among the GOP in opposing Santorum?
Its downright obvious that Watkins had to look to the Arlen Specter-Elsie Hillman types of Republicans who are Pro-Choice to get votes running against Santorum in a primary.
So I think I see a skeleton in Mr. Watkins closet that makes him a Mitt Romneyesque flip-flopper.
whoever raises him the most $$ will be his Lt Gov pick
To Cardcarrypsea,
Joe Watkins is now, and was then a Pro-Life Conservative Republican. It's good to see someone who has their history down. Just not all of it!! You might ask yourself a question…. Was that Pa report the position of Joe or that of a slightly overly aggressive, but beloved staffer trying to "Position" the candidate and thus an error? One can only imagine the staff meeting that day….. You do not see a skeleton as there is no skeleton. Watkins, if you recall, went on to endorse Santorum in '94….had an early fundraiser and endorsed Santorum again in 2000, and if I have it right, had Rick on his radio show discussing family values where they AGREED with each other. I'm told they have a good relationship which dates back to '94. This is not a flip-flopper, this is not a RINO, this is the real deal.
I’m not here to get into an argument, but spin is spin and if someone is spinning their past away as is being done here the record must be set straight.
In 1994 Watkins was described as “Pro-Abortion” in a primary voters guide handed out by the Pro-Life Federation.
My source heard Watkins speak and liked his speaking skills, then did the check and was shocked to see Watkins put into the “Pro-Abortion” column.
You're not in an argument, and the facts as you see them is only a portion of history. Not the whole story. Just so the record is truly straight to the viewers out there.
Respectfully,
Know your full history. If you are going tell a story, Cardcarrypsea, know the whole story. That way you can defend yourself when challenged.
The spin cycle was turned on by you…..
Hey, Joe Watkins is my kind of candidate. The both of you should go to your separate corners, we hear your back and forth, now let's see if this guy can work with Corbett to get is some D**n jobs!!!
Am I hearing straight or is it rumor? Lynn Swann endorsed Joe Watkins for Lt. Gov.??
CARDCARRYPSEA,
Is this the same Federation that endorsed Chip Brightbill and Jubelirer? I rest my case. The Federation was in the tank for Santorum. The piece that you are talking about is a hit piece meant to push people toward Rick if it is in fact a reality.
Since September I have asked Tom Corbetts campaign to respond on solutions to reduce the soaring costs in the Dept. Corrections. Through phone, fax and e-mails the Corbett camp has failed to respond to this issue. The public should know the Atty. Gen. has not supported second chances for the most costly inmates, which happens to be lifers. Lifers, have been marginalized by the political arena and the public needs to know the followig fact. Crimes Code Statute in the Commonwealth, Title 18–Chapter 25–Section 2502–describe 1st and 2nd degree murder as two distinct seperate acts. However, the punishment is the same which happens to be life without parole. Some lifers do merit a review at a time of their sentence, anyone convicted of a first degree sentence should not walk in a free society again. Enough said!
