If Mr. Platts gets a job in Washington, expect a herd of RINO’s (since most state reps and senators from this region qualify) to come charging for the seat.
I hope an authentic conservative wins a primary here.
Scott Perry is a loyal Republican insider who packaged himself as a “Patriot” to get elected to the state house. Perry replaced a retiring payjacker (Bruce Smith) and defeated an authentic conservative in a five way primary race.
Perry happens to be serving in the military and can use that for political gain.
Platts was always a fraud – the question is will he cause more damage where he is now or if he goes onto this new post.
Part of the problem is that so many of the folks in Platts district – York County Republicans in particular – are so frickin' stuck in the good-old-boy system that they refuse to understand the need to shake the tree of dead fruit.
CARDCARRYPSEA, are you kidding me? Perry is one of the very most conservative state reps I've ever dealt with, and for you to put "Patriot" in quotes like that reflects a really alarmingly warped and cynical view of military service and patriotism. Most reasonable people consider someone serves their country through the military, including actual active duty tours, a patriot. Sounds like someone's got a bad case of sour grapes.
Let the fight begin.
Platts will cause no harm in a govt 'entity'. He'll just collect a big paycheck and wander about as a DC dude. What will be interesting is whether or not he decides to involve himself in choosing a successor, including members of his staff. He saw himself as Specter's successor. Since Specter didn't stay Republican, no more ladder-climbing for Platts. The turf battle is that York sees this as a York seat and Cumberland is a smaller part of the district. Both counties have grown population since Platts was first elected. Quite a few candidates were involved in the primary when Bill Goodling retired from the seat. In the end, the vote came down between Platts and Masland. Goodling did jump in with an endorsement, but his candidate did not finish in the top two. That's the history. Who is back who now will be interesting.
Duh, last sentence should have read who is backing whom will be interesting.
