I am a supporter of Tom Corbetts, but I don't agree with this type of stuff. Tom – if you are reading this, or if you have someone who reads this – please don't go there. You have my vote because I think you are the best man for the job (Rohrer is a bit too conservative for me on some tax issues – I think that completely ruling out a tax increase is a bad idea). However, if you go down this road, I will NOT support you. Please stop.

just got an e-mail from the Rohrer Campaign about this from Jeff Collman. I was a Rohrer supporter before, so I am somewhat biased; however, I agree with Tom – this is disgusting. Please – just stick to the issues and stop all this nitpicking into people's personal lives.
Tom – besides investigating people who disagree with you, what will YOU do as governor?

Why does it always have to go this direction? Just stick to the issues. Next thing, they'll be going through his trash can looking for some receipt for a blockbuster video he never returned. Ask Sarah Palin.

It's official – Sam Rohrer is a viable candidate. Does anyone think that Pat Toomey is digging up dirt of Peg? No – because she is not viable. Corbett must have polling that indicates this is stronger than they had imagined. This will be an interesting race to watch.

Here is an interesting angle on this story –
Is this not the SAME Andrew Paris who WORKS FOR AG TOM CORBETT? Is he not being paid BY THE TAXPAYERS to be in his office during the workday?
Look closely at the time stamp on this request – it is posted on Monday, January 11 at 4:00. Last I checked, that was considered the work-day and Mr. Paris should have had his butt in his taxpayer funded chair.
Is this not what bonusgate was all about? People being paid by the taxpayer to be working on a campaign? How is this any different? Will Corbett investigate himself now?
    This is very troubling.

Holy Crap! I did not catch that. I don't know if Paris works for the govt or not, but if he does, he should not be working on a campaign during the day.

Somebody know if this is true? If so, Corbett is toast.

According to recent phone book info, Andrew Paris is paid by the taxpayers to work for the AG (http://www.scribd.com/doc/19871579/Phone-Numbers)... Has he resigned? If I would have stopped in there to see him at 3:45 on January 11th, would he have been out on this little secret campaign mission?
No wonder I can't get my phonecall taken when I call a government office building.

I, for one, am getting sick of this whole, "leave of absence to campaign" bit. If the job they hold is so unimportant that they can take this long of a leave of absence, why are we paying them for the job in the first place?

  16. Brownie
    Posted January 15, 2010 at 9:09 pm | Permalink

Don't forget that Corbett's number one guy, the Chairman of his campaign, the man who is completely and totally responsible for Corbett getting elected AG in the first place is convicted felon Bob Asher. Asher went to jail for Perjury, Bribery, Racketeering and Conspiracy as part of a pay to play scandal involving the state treasurer while Asher was state GOP Chairman. His co-defendant Dudd Dwyer blew his own head off on TV just before he was scheduled to go to jail himself. This is the kind of person our squeeky clean Attorney General has IN CHARGE of his campaign for governor! Asher was – by far – the largest contributor to Corbett's AG campaign in 2004…second was DeNaples. And yet, the GOP is poised to nominate Corbett for governor. The Ds should have a field day with that! PA has to be the only state in the USA where the current head of a major party running the governor candidate's campaign went to prison for political corruption.

they said the job has been filled by another individual so I guess its not that the position is so unimportant is can just be left vacant. It is my understanding that Paris left to work for the campaign, so is NO LONGER being paid by the OAG (Tax Payers) and his vacant position has been filled

Tom, I agree. However, it is worse than that.
First, they are looking into his family members who are on his insurance policy. Judging by the pictures on his website, he has young kids. What do they hope to find by digging up dirt on Rohrer's children?
Second, old Tommy better be careful. If he is launching investigations into the lives of everybody in Harrisburg, he better be sure he is clean – and he is not.

Does anyone doubt for one minute that the thousands he has gotten from Casino Felon Louis DeNaples is not dirty money?
Does anyone doubt for one minute that Mr. Nutt is not as guilty as everyone being prosecuted in bonusgate. Nutt is campaigning on the taxpayer dime – period.

Are you aware that who ever wins the republican primary will face a democrat? This silly notion that looking how an elected official spends taxpayer money is some how bad is wrong and in fact short sighted. Isn't how a public official spend tax dollars a VERY valid campaign issue? I want to know how Corbett, Inc. is spending money taxpayer money.

He could have hit the ground running, but Corbett never wanted to debate him because their is NO comparison on their vision and grasp of the issues. In the horrible shape that our state is in, why are people backing someone who KNOWS NOTHING about how to dig us out of this hole. And oh by the way, the puppet master of his campaign is a convicted felon! That alone should disqualify him.

Caddywompass – you are an obvious liberal or a Corbett supporter. (or both) Let me simply point out that what you are doing is typical of those who have no response: call names.
    The fact is this:
Tom Corbett has a CONVICTED FELON heading up his campaign.
His Campaign Manager is on "extended leave" from a taxpayer funded job and has blurred the lines between campaigning and his official duties (i.e. bonusgate).
Despite both of these indescrecions, Tom Corbett is trying to dig up dirt on Sam Rohrer – one of the most straight-laced guys you could ever meet.
YOUR REACTION: Name Calling (i.e. those of us who have a problem with this are crazy). You obviously have no response to the accusation so you hide behind your computer and yell "crazy, crazy, crazy". It shows a lack of ability to intelligently engage in the issues. As such, I will ignore your comments from here on out.

  56. Posted January 16, 2010 at 3:24 pm | Permalink

Absolutely wrong. They have been prosecuting people who were campaigning ON STATE TIME – meaning they did NOT take leave, and were collecting a state salary for time they spent working on a campaign.

Taking leave (so the taxpayers don't pay your salary) is legal, and the correct way to do it.

First, if you believe that the Rohrer campaign is not doing opposition research on Corbett, I have a large slightly used bridge in Brooklyn available for sale.

Second, since when is asking to see someone's voting and spending record an attack? What happened to the push for transparency in Harrisburg? If Sam is going to run on his record as a legislator, he can't freak out when someone asks to see that record.

This is the same Andrew Paris and what he does is take a "leave of absence" to work on Corbett's various campaign's. Although not paid by taxpayer's he does still work for the OAG. And of course the next question is–who pays him when he works on the campaigns and why is all of this okay? It seems he could potentially use information he acquired from his job in a campaign–too much of a gray area.
