The state GOP is right to give it to the Philly Committee. Philly can't even fill half of their committee spots and they want to be players in statewide politics? Now they're trying to cram the liberal Jim Cawley down our throats? ANYBODY BUT CAWLEY AND THE PHILLY GOP!

This is an Asher power play. The SE Caucus has shut Asher out and he is retailiating against Meehan. Anything that Asher and Gleason are "for" is by definition bad for the Republican Party.

Awfully hard to find a good team or even a good guy to root for here.

ASHER AND GLEASON ARE MAKING A POWER PLAY HERE.

Last fall there was a controversy over the GOP backing out of the races down there.

Did Asher stir that up, too?

Its hard for me to find a good guy in this fight.

    Duhhhhhh! It's Asher's fault! It's all Gleasons's fault! Wahhh!

Get a life. Take responsibility yourself and stop blaming the same people over and over.

Asher bit off more then he can chew here ! He screwed 3 candidates for LT Gov over the last 2 weeks by mooching money for Gov campaign. Gleason needs to go, he cannot even control his own democratic nephew. By Rob By ! Asher will be next !

Let me share with you the double-secret agenda: Help build a more effective local Republican party in Philly. All this other stuff has nothing to do with anything.

  10. Posted January 19, 2010 at 4:06 am | Permalink

Al Schmidt is a reliable person. Not a hack. And many, many who know Al know he is the future. All the rest is speculation from 5000 feet. On the ground, Al is the guy. There is also a Candidates' Forum on Feb 9th at Crystal Tea Room in Phila 6:30pm to 9:30pm and we are expecting a big turn out.

    Al,

I'm from the other side of the state. I don't know you. Never even heard of you. That's not good or bad, just what it is. Philadelphia and republican is a strange pairing of words. Who knew there was such a thing.

That said, you are working for the man and the organization that many of us consider to be a major part of the problem. With all due respect, why should we accept your word for anything?

Further, will your efforts be to bring forward more candidates that we conservatives believe to be the problem — the so called moderates that are nothing more than liberals wearing the GOP label?

    Ray,
Since you are from the other side of the state you are completely unfamiliar with the backstabbing, incompetence, and blatant thievery that been the Philadelphia Republican City Committee for the past three decades. They do absolutely nothing and when they DO work, its to kick their own judicial candidates off the ballot , not support R candidates, and collect paychecks and direct contracts to friends. Little else. If you knew how bad a shape philly is in you might feel differently.

  13. Posted January 19, 2010 at 7:07 am | Permalink

    Change,

I don't know Al. I have read stories of the incompetence of that local committee. Without even knowing that, I have to question how one family rules the roost for 80 years. I am sure that it does stink and is corrupt. I just don't think that the State GOP is the solution. Many like me see them as the problem.

    Bob

    Lets get to the point.

You have money and a point of view about a lot of things including what goes on in the bedroom..

Al must be supporting some part of your personal agenda.

  15. Posted January 19, 2010 at 11:50 am | Permalink

The evidence for this is….? What are you talking about? what goes in the bedroom? What is my agenda?

A lot of people are supporting Al, including Democrats, who are sick of the out of control incompetence and corruption in Philadelphia as well as the job destroying taxes that keep businesses out of Philadelphia adding to its spiral of decline. Al Schmidt is the opposite of the Perzel Meehan Republicans. I don't think Al is a Limited Government conservative. I would think he is more Free Market but in Philadelphia, the government and prevailing Weltanschauung is that government will take care of basic needs and for businesses, corporatist seeking corporate welfare or, more to the point, pinstripe patronage. Gov. Rendell's special friends, BallardSpahr and Comcast and others, are located in Philadelphia.

    Posted January 19, 2010 at 1:12 pm | Permalink

Bob Guzzardi is not, IMHO, a conservative reformer. He has been trying to hitch his wagon to a star – and he keeps picking the loser.

It appears he is more interested in "Righteous governance" than good government. We will be a little lighter in the pocket if one of Bob's candidates ever wins, because he will be looking for his payday – and we, the taxpayers always foot the bill.

I have followed his rhetoric for a year-plus – and his values and ideas change with the wind.

  18. ..and then
    Posted January 19, 2010 at 1:12 pm | Permalink

Philly politics will be forced to shift if this fellow gets a shot at LG and wins. I'm hearing that he got an unintended boost from other quarters around PA when the SE Caucus did NOT vote for him:

If you've only been following Bob Guzzardi for a year plus, then you really don't know anything about Bob Guzzardi and what he has personally done for the reform movement. Bob plays chess, not checkers. Perhaps you are not able to follow the logic. Perhaps you are simply attempting to smear someone who has been very effective. Bob is sometimes mistaken on policy, but he generally listens to reason and he will admit when he has made a mistake.

What have you done to advance reform in the Commonwealth? What do you plan to do to advance reform in the Commonwealth in 2010? How does "Righteous governance" differ from good government? How would you define limited, Constitutional government? What is your position on the proposed Constitutional Convention? How would YOU stimulate the economy or encourage the creation of more family sustaining jobs in the Commonwealth?

Sorry Dolley, I consider myself a referee in life: I call them as I see them.

As for your remaining questions: I have done more than Bob – and have dedicated my time to good government, smaller government and trying to prevent bad candidates – no matter what party they are from – from being elected and having influence on any policy. As such, I support good, qualified candidates that don't want to be part of politics per se, but want to be good public servants. I spend my waking hours working to recruit these good cnadidates and work hard every day to get them elected.

I do not believe that there should be any conflicts of interest (pay to play) and want stronger laws outlawing the lobybyist that corrupt our political system.

I support candidates that don't want a payoff – and I am ridgid in being a true conservative – not only when expedient.

How about you, Dolley? What do you do?

  21. Posted January 19, 2010 at 3:35 pm | Permalink

And yet you can't commit to only one screen name? Interesting.

I personally do not know Bob, but I have seen him posting here often. There are many who claim to be "reformers" because, especially after the pay raise, it was an issue they could unite people under. However, that movement has just as many crackpots and wannabes as any other and people should still be vigilant about following anyone or any group blindly. Do your own research and make up your own mind.

Al Schmidt is a great hire for the Philly GOP. I am no fan of the folks that people on here throw around like expletives, but Al is a sincere person who deserves a chance to get something started in Philly. The results of his '09 candidacy do not accurately reflect the change that he sparked within the party and younger folks in Philly. He has a lot of energy and some great ideas to reinvigorate the party. We all agree that the Philly GOP is dead. Let's give Al our support and wish him the best. It can only get better.

  24. Posted January 19, 2010 at 5:46 pm | Permalink

I wish Al Schmidt the best of luck. Meehan has actively worked to undermine any efforts of the Philly GOP to actively communicate their message in order to continue to dine off of Brady's table scraps. Just within the past several months Meehan tried talking Schmidt out of running for controller as well as pulling the juduicial slate. Asher and Gleason's involvement here don't change that fact one bit.

This whole thing sounds like the mob bosses fighting for control of Chicago.

I could tell the world the many things that I do, but I don't have enough screen names to hide behind.

Your words sound good, but hidden behind the skirt of anonymity, they hold no meaning.

Who are you? Who do you work for? Who pays your salary? Don't give us platitudes, give us real answers.

PS — There are people here (like Dolley) who do post under a screen name but who do not engage in personal attacks or claim so special inside information and I have no problem with that. You don't seem to fit that profile at all.
