Corbett is the annointed one and whether there is a debate or not, he will be shoved down our throats at State Committee.
Real conservatives need to get their papers and get their signatures in the three week period starting in the middle of February.
GOP state committee seats will be elected in the May primary.
This should happen for the benefit of all voters. No reason why Democrat and Independent candidates shouldn’t do this, too.
Does anyone find it odd that State Committee endorses before the petitions even go out? You're not even officially on the ballot until you get the signatures. Why wouldn't they wait to see how well someone does with petitions before they endorse?
So Sam Rohrer wants to give rank and file, grassroots REPUBLICANS more say in who they nominate for the GOP ticket, and Tom Corbett thinks you accomplish this by going to a PSEA sponsored debate? Tom Corbett is totally out of touch with the base of the GOP…TOTALLY!
The PSEA is a GREAT organization. Their only interest is looking out for children and teachers, and how can you not like that? Tom is often endorsed by the PSEA, which means he will do more for education than Rohrer. Republicans tend to think that school choice is necessary, but it is not. Our state has determined that public schools are the best choice for kids, so you Republicans need to support your government. If you love the PSEA, please vote for Tom Corbett. I stand with the PSEA, and since they stand with Tom Corbett, I know where he stands on issues. Go Tom go!!
Rohrer could have a debate with himself. It would go something like this:
Sam, why did you vote to raise your pension? Answer: I'm sorry I shouldn't have done that
Sam, why did you vote for the payraise? Answer: I'm sorry, I wish I could take that vote back. I tried not to but I made a deal with Perzel
Amen!!!!!!!
Another Amen!!!!!!! Because they are arrogant and they think the voting public is stupid. From where I sit the voting public is getting smarter and smarter. You'd think the establishment republicans want a third political party started and it just might happen if they continue ignoring the people.
Someone is living in la la land. PA has 9th highest paid teachers and at the bottom of the list in the U.S. in education. The U.S. is something like 26th in the world. Where does that put PA?
Let me say that that is indeed the truth Sarc.
He may likely be the endorsed candidate but does that mean that he will be primary winner?
I don't know if anybody saw the news recently, but Sam Rohrer voted for the payraise. He did. Sam Rohrer voted for the payraise. The payraise? Sam Rohrer Voted for it. When I say "it", I am referring to the payraise. They voted on it, and Sam Rohrer voted yes – on the payraise.
I forget if I mentioned it or not, but Sam Rohrer voted for the payraise.
Does anyone happen to know how Sam Rohrer voted on the payraise. Please tell me because I don't know.
Rohrer voted for the payraise and the big pension increase in 2001. Conservatives backing this guy are going to take the wind out of their own sails because hypocrisy sinks ships. C'mon guys, what are you thinking?
Reason is simple: the state GOP leadership like to clear the deck of all opposition in the primary because they want to box out as much conservative input as possible. Remember, while the rank-and-file in the GOP are conservative, the leadership of the GOP is neo-Marxist.
Seems to me that an open debate would be an excellent idea – give both candidates and their supporters a chance to put all of the garbage on the table at one time and clear the air once and for all.
Brian Preski, John Perzel's former chief of staff, organized a campaign fundraiser for Corbett while Perzel was under investigation by the AG's office. This was a clear conflict of interest, yet Corbett allowed it.
Bob Asher, a convicted felon, is the co-chair of Corbett's exploratory campaign committee.
And Corbett, according to PA Common Cause and the PA campaign finance website, accepted $85,000+ in campaign funding from gambling interests from 2001-2008 including $55,000 from a realty company owned by Louis DeNaples, another convicted felon who owns Mount Airy casino.
And the best you can come up with against Rohrer is the pay raise? Sounds like a no-brainer to me. And I can repeat the facts on as many threads as you.
I'm really having a hard time deciding whether you're being sarcastic or serious. Really. Maybe I'm just dense. Could you clarify?
Because of 'part one' of my statement: the grassroots are conservative. Why abandon my people?
Besides, a third party in PA at this time is less than useless. The establishment has the deck stacked against non-GOP and non-Democrat candidates.
If a mechanism already exists, why reinvent the wheel when you should be working to seize control of it?
We're thinking that the pay raise is a non-issue compared to the lack of integrity demonstrated by Corbett. See my response to you above. Are you Brian Nutt?
Thanks for posting that three times. There's been several cases before where I wished I could vote a comment up or down more than once. You seem to have solved that problem for me.
RJ Harris on 580 is attempting to put something together for Rep. Rohrer and AG Corbett. It was all preliminary talk this morning, however RJ sounded like he was going to do what ever it takes to get them on the air together in debate, including rearrange show schedules to give them more uninterrupted time. It also sounded like he was going to try and make the segments available for download and allow other media outlets to use them or rebroadcast them.
You're in denial. You just admitted the party hacks control the primary and they intentionally box out conservatives. If you were truly honest, you would admit they also control the money and that the deck is HOPELESSLY stacked against non-endorsed candidates.
The only way conservatives will make headway is to abandon the Republican party in droves and start a third party.
They won, with a lot of help from certain individuals who cannot be expected to unilaterally fund the reform candidates. Voter discontent combined with financial support made that possible. Absent a payraise level issue, that won't be repeated.
Russ was shut-out by the signature requirement. Ballot access must be addressed.
Politics make strange bedfellows don't they? Eichelberger supported an event in Blair for the pay-jacker? Wow.
Why would you assume I am being sarcastic? The agenda of the PSEA would be the best thing for our state. What do you have against helping children? If you fully understand what this union is trying to promote, you'd see why they are supporting Tom Corbett…then you'd want to support him instead of that conservative, Sam Rohrer.
What was Eich thinking? How dare he not be a single-issue politician.
So Cobett has agreed to fund education? That SOB!!!
Let’s throw him out!!!!
By the way, Scarnati voted for the midnight raise too, and was originally FOR tolling I80. Now that the wind has blown, he’s against it (for now).
Does anyone recall, by the way, how Scarnati got elected originally? The incumbent, Slocum had been in jail for supposedly dumping sludge, and Scarnati ran as an independent who won the election and switched back to Repugnant. It’s safe to say he’s remained repugnant, and will continue to do so.
And if that is true, which I believe it is, why do you believe the Republican party will EVER change? Why shouldn't conservatives leave in droves and start their own party?
I didn't realize you had a degree in psychology and could determine an individual's mental profile based upon a few comments on a blog. I'm almost impressed.
Your fundamental assertion that there is no hope is fundamentally flawed, though. I give you John Eichelberger and Mike Folmer. Deck was completely stacked but they won anyway.
I might also point out that your 'third party' approach cannot work in PA as things currently exist; just ask Russ Diamond. He tried but was stymied at every turn because of the current system.
I am a very strong supporter of a quality education for our children, which is something more than the PSEA can claim. The PSEA leadership (not necessarily the rank-and-file members) are a bunch of thugs who are only worried about their political influence, how much money they can extort from the taxpayers, and how much they receive in union dues. Many of their own members don't even support them and if PA became a right-to-work state the PSEA would disintegrate.
Pennsylvania leads the nation in the number of teacher strikes each year, putting students out of school for weeks at a time and delaying important graduation dates for high school seniors. Yep, that sure sounds like an organization that cares about children.
And a quote from your post above, "I stand with the PSEA, and since they stand with Tom Corbett, I know where he stands on issues" is ridiculous. Tom Corbett is going to make a good governor solely because he panders to the PSEA and takes campaign funds from them? That single point defines for you all of the myriad issues facing this state?
It's always nice to meet deep thinkers.
Jack's Jill went up Capitol Hill
To fetch a pale of water
Jack fell down and broke his crown
And Jill came tumbling after…all the while screaming, "hey, that was Sam Rohrer's fault…HE VOTED FOR THE PAYRAISE!"
Worst schools in the country? Best in the country? Both positions are not based in reality. Look at the ACT and SAT stats. Definitely not at the bottom, but not at the top either.
PSEA has long forgotten the children…their lobbyists no longer even pretend to address lesson plans, etc….it is a union with no other purpose that other unions…more money and benefits for its members…you are a moron—most likely educated by a member of pSEA
Guess you kinda missed the irony perhaps kinda sorta??
No candidate for Governor should be threatened by a debate. The PSEA event was that organization's event. While the conversation here has turned into whether the PSEA is or is not good, that really isn't the point. The citizens of Pennsylvania would benefit by a debate between the Republican candidates as well as a debate among the Democrat candidates. Can we agree on that?
i would be more inclined to beleive in rohrer if he held a press conference and read out loud article 2 section 8 of the state constitution and promised as gov he would do everything he could to get legislators back to the salary and mileage only as mandated by the constitution and end the perks, leadership funds, gut and run, and promise to get rid of wothless departments and agencies like the inspector general. why do we need the gov's IG when we have an elected AG and AG.
Indeed, Ray, that is the question on everyone's mind.
Corbett is the best candidate money can buy.
That's one thing he'll have, but is that enough to win a primary where grassroots conservatives are energized to want more than politics as usual.
Rohrer is coming to the North Hills this Friday. I sure hope that he draws a crowd.
