Cawley and Beiler got beat up pretty badly in some shady mailers but still received a strong amount of votes. If anything, it looks like those mailers against them only helped them. Both have a lot of markers left to call in as well.

One wonders where this stands with Corbett and his team looking at these numbers. Is he more inclined to hint at who he wants or less?

A Corbett-Cawley ticket was hashed out WEEKS ago by the higher ups. Resistance is futile. The best thing to hope for is that everyone stays in the fight and gets their name on the ballot. Make it a crap shoot. That's the only way to stop the southeastern RINO to get the nod. So, call the non-chosen ones, and encourage them to run without the endorsement. It's the only hope.

It's between Beiler and Cawley, and it will come down to which candidate has done the best job securing the "2nd choice" vote. In other words, if, for instance, Beiler can get all the Watkins, Johnson, and DiFrancesco people to commit to him as their second choice, moreso than Cawley can, Beiler wins. Vice versa for Cawley.

I agree with Nathan Shrader – I'm tired of the Republican establishment making their choice before the people vote their choice in the primary. I'm sick of listening to them, when they should be listening to US! They are supposed to represent us, not the other way around.

Steve Johnson, impressive as the PEOPLE'S VOICE! and in today's political picture with most of the people rejecting the govt status quo, it would be good to get more regular people running for office. Mr. Johnson will have my vote.

Is this the same State Committee that endorsed Arlen Specter? And Swann? And Fisher? Yeah, I'll certainly follow them blindly off the edge of a cliff. They have a great track record.

dave – great point. ..so what we see is that Tom Corbett and Jim Cawley are both ESTABLISHMENT republicans. That's no surprise. I hope committe chooses to endorse, that way I know who to cross off my list. I love Toomey, but if he is the endorsed candidate, I will vote for Peg, just because of the arrogance of the committee.

My comment to the Watkins and Johnsonses of the world is simple: Set the table. Humble yourself to run for lower office. Don't just haul off and run for the biggest office in the land one day, without having done the spade work it takes to earn the support of a political body like State Committee, and then whine over the outcome. That's not how it works. If you have such a passion for public service, why did you not run for any office before? Was elected office beneath you until now? You deserve the a$$-reaming you're getting from Asher/Gleason/Cawley. Some of us have done the spade work, helping the pary in the vineyards, helping good conservatives like Pat Toomey. Where were you guys, other than dreaming about being Lt. Gov someday. Why did you not run for state rep, county commissioner, or Congress or something? You don't just run for some high office when it suits you, when you feel the moment is right for you. Morons.

Glad to hear we're on the same page. I'm looking forward to meeting Mr. Johnson sometime soon. I'm supporting Russ Diamond, but I certainly hope that cooler heads prevail and PA's 3.1 million GOP voters get to make an unbossed decision on May 18th.

The problem with so many of those who have 'paid their dues' is that they have been co-opted or corrupted. They are part of the problem. Having a fresh face — without the taint that political experience in this state brings — is an asset.

The vote in southwestern PA is further evidence of how out of touch RSC really is. Russ Diamond is the only candidate committed to a reasonable, responsible plan for holding a state constitutional convention. The F&M poll last week said that 72% of voters favor a convention. How foolish are they to ignore the one and only candidate who can speak to that issue?

I'm for Whoever/Diamond on May 18th. He'll help the GOP win and stand for something at the same time. It's the kind of campaign we need!

Open primary for governor, open primary for #2 spot. Let the PEOPLE decide, then the PARTY gets in and supports the voter’s choice. Prescription for failure is to do the same old thing and lose. Again.

I'm amazed at how many think the government is so great they want to give up their own vote in favor of the party's choice. Are you cracked? PA's system of voting for governor/lt. governor seperately is genious. At the very basic level the vote is the citizen's vote for who they want to represent them, not the governor candidate's choice (who, by the way, isn't even the governor – yet!) Open Primary this year is the only way to go.

  41. Guzzardi on Koolaid?

Guzzardi's newspaper the Bulletin did a puff piece ignoring Aichele's huge tax increases, pay to play, historic and relentless attacks on conservatives, multi conflicts, and pro-abortion record which spins loser Carol Aichele. Aichele is using it in her losing campaign. With Chester County subracted Aichele has 12 votes statewide. Bob G – you know Aichele's horrible record. Are you on drugs? Did you fire the great jornalist Chris Friend who wrote the Aichele law firm Saul Ewing exposed articles? Bob, I thought you were for Watkins and I am shocked you would drink this Koolaid. Please explain lest you many fans will think less of you.

Does anyone happen to know how the State Commitee voted in the Toomey/Specter race in 04? Did they support Toomey?

  44. Posted February 7, 2010 at 10:06 pm | Permalink

The Hacks at State Committee endorsed Arlen Specter over Pat Toomey. Pat Toomey is not chasing the Hack Endorsement, the Hacks are chasing him because, in effect, there is no other candidate. Peg Luksik has not raised significant money nor established a presence in southeast. Nevertheless, it is mistake to underestimate her.

What is the evidence that The Bulletin is my newspaper. I am a creditor. Tom Rice makes all the editorial and news decisions. I had nothing to do with this. John Kennedy is my guy and I have contributed significant portion of his campaign cash to him. Carol Aichele, as I have written elsewhere on grassrootspa, is part of part of the incestuous insider incumbents network, getting rich from government.

Aichele is OUT. Now watch the other insiders drop out one by one. My prediction is Cawley, Watkins and Johnson will be all that is left. Watkins will hang on, but drop out as he hasn't the stomach to fight the BIG MACHINERY that is the Republican Party that obviously has been courted by Cawley. Johnson has a GREAT shot as he represents more of what the people WANT and NEED in a Lt. Gov. This will prove interesting.
