This is nothing for PA'ians to be proud of. Actually, very embarrassing.
This man is an embarrassment. What does that say about the electorate that perpetrates this carnage?
Time for REAL change.
Voters in that district: dump this man. Shame on us all if we don’t!
"longest Serving"
Who has he been serving – The People or John Murtha?
.
His district would be deserted and his people living in FEMA camps if not for the jobs and contracts that he wrestled away from the GOP military spenders. They stole all the military bases to support their local economies. Thank God Murtha fought for his people.
Are these jobs anything like the ones 'saved or created' by Obama?
Most of the money that he got goes to his cronies. How many real jobs did he actually create. How many other jobs could have been saved elsewhere if taxes weren't so high?
Well, there was 28% unemployment when all the steel mills left town for Korea and China. The value of homeowners' property fell by more than 36% and the largest city went under Act 47 bankruptcy protection. So, as I said, the retirees and homeowners were headed for the FEMA camps. Then, Big John Murtha went to fight for his constituents and worked in partnership with local business, government and non-profits in education and health care to incubate small businesses. Those businesses grew and hired people. Pretty soon, property values started heading back up and other small businesses invested and grew jobs. That was a good investment that created real jobs. Unlike the spending of this current and the previous Administrations which have cost ten million jobs. And it was a darn sight cheaper to taxpayer than the six trillion dollars Hank Paulson, Ben Bernanke and Timmeh Geithner sent to the Wall Street bankers so they could avoid bankruptcy for their idiotic gambling and pay themselves huge bonuses from our tax dollars.
As Murtha himself so aptly put it, "If I am corrupt, its because of my constituents"
The old 'ends justify the means' mantra. Taking from one set of taxpayers to give to another is wrong no matter how you try to put lipstick on this pig, it is still a pig.
Even if there are jobs that resulted from Murtha's earmarks, what we don't see and don't know is how many other people lost their jobs because of him. When government takes money from one to give to another, nothing is created. It is only shifted around.
Yes, it certainly isn't HIS fault that he is corrupt. Playing the "Blame Game" well, is what he learned being the longest serving congressman to represent PA
well said Ray. I don't recall this being the exact quote but your iteration captures the sense: Murtha thinks his voters are corrupt and he might be right. Taking water from one end of the pool and putting it at the other end does not raise the water level. Redistributing the wealth does not raise the standard of living for the community, only a few connected to the elected.
George Bush and Hank Paulson drained the taxpayers' Olympic swimming pool to fill the water glass of the bankers' on Wall Street. That is real corruption. It is still going on under Obama with the same set of actors … Bernanke and Geithner. Complaining about Murtha helping the voters in his district who voted for him to fight for them while ignoring the international money lenders who hoovered up our taxpayer money is like complaining about a dog relieving himself on your sidewalk while the arsonist burns down your house.
Short emories on many things. Steelworkers’ union marched all over the ‘Burgh just a few short years ago, endorsing and proclaiming John Edwards as the absolutely correct pick for President of the United States. Was Murtha marching or riding in the auto with the union bosses?
He made that comment within the last year when he was being criticized for the pork barrel spending and earmarks. He said it as if it was the noble thing to do.
Steal a dime or steal a dollar, it is still theft. We have railed on this forum about Bush's spending, the bailouts, TARP, and every other attempt to expand government. You coming here now to defend one of the most corrupt and longest serving corrupt politician reeks.
Even the left wing group CREW cites him as corrupt. It isn't a partisan attack on him. It's just the fact. The reason that he gets away with it is that he is in a body that's full of corruption and he probably knows where enough bodies are buried that no one dares try to rein him in.
CREW is owned and operated by Rahm. Rahm, in case you had not noticed, is trying to take Murtha down because the Chicago mob wants Boeing to win the largest contract every awarded by the Pentagon. Boeing is headquartered in Chicago and Bill Daley is a member of Boeing's board and a big investor. All the pols in Chicago have an interest in Boeing. Murtha wants Gruman to compete for the contract. The Chicago gang wants the whole thing. Rahm turned CREW loose on Murtha and every other member of the Appropriations panel to pressure him. The only member of that panel not to be attacked by CREW is the one guy who represents the rump of Boeing left in Seattle.
So it is the Chicago mob vs the Johnstown mob. It is still corruption.
I live in NEPA. Everyday, I hear Paul Kanjorski, Bob Mello, Bob Casey, say they are saving jobs, bringing in the money,,,,,,,,, If they are doing so musch good why do we have: some of the lowest wages in the country, the highest unemployement ( all of the time), the highest drop out rates in the states, wide spread corruptions, the highest % of citiens on the government dole in the country,,,,,,,This is the same story in Murtha's district. His district isnt exactly leading edge! ( sorry but it isnt) . MUrtha TELLS you you ar edoing well. Dont beleive him
For all of those politians trying to help us I say :please STOP!!!! Get out of our way and we can help ourselves. We are smart than you and know what we need. Kanjorski would even use local health care when he had heart surgery. I was well served when I had a heart procedure.
Politico is reporting Murtha is back in hospital in intensive care
