I'm missing something. Whether it's at the state of federal level, why are so many Republican leaders expressing
"caution" (to put it mildly) about the Tea Party movement? As a conservative Republican, I see no difference between the goals of the Tea Party – limited government, accountable government, and affordable government – and that of my own party. If Tea Party activists want to do their own thing or participate in party activities, what do I care? Many are wary of both parties and for good reason. In our state the GOP has a long way to go to reclaim credibility with some of the thugs and crooks that are still in elected positions under the GOP banner.

You have no idea about the MerCo GOP…lol.

I blogged about it and sent it to Chris for posting with this story. Crazy stuff.

Mr. Bauer's comment speaks directly to the point of the Tea Party exercise. The fact is that neither party has done much to represent anyone in America who doesn't have a large bank account from which to draw campaign contributions, and neither party has done much to prevent the trainwreck we're presently headed toward as a nation. Worse, both parties have been guilty of shoveling coal into the fire and building steam–not because they couldn't see where this was headed, but because they just haven't been selfless enough to care. The Tea Party is no longer accepting this self-serving attitude from any politician, no matter the party. Get busy solving our problems, or get out of the way so we can install someone who will. The GOP still talks a better game than the Democrat party, and right now the Democrats are doing so much harm as the party in power that we may never trust them again, so even a bad GOPer appears to be better than a good Democrat. That said, we're just not going with the "machine" candidates any longer. We'll find our own and back him, party be damned. This is how we will operate until we've sufficiently retaken the GOP (and eventually the Democrat party as well), at which point we can then nominate our own candidates directly.

In short, candidates who truly wish to serve–and who wish to have the opportunity to do so–had better truly embrace the positions of the Tea Party, or they just won't get the cash, the interest or the votes. Doubt this if you want…but just watch what happens. If you aren't aware of just how encompassing and powerful the Tea Party movement has and continues to become, you really are in for quite a surprise. Conservatives have always been the majority in this country, so much so that the expression "we surround you" has been taken as a slogan. Think of the Tea Party this way…to all those who claim to be Conservatives, we say "we (true Conservatives) surround YOU"!

Rich, good article on your blog.

You've nailed it…to a point. A new poll (and many here know what I think about polls) suggests that incumbents are in trouble, not just Dems.

No matter how good the GOP is at talking a good game, they are culpable in the mess that took place between 2000-2008. It's not like reckless spending is a new concept. When the Dems took congress, it started to get crazy. Now it's totally, certifiably insane.

But the GOP sure did plenty on their own. And that's something that Chairman King either doesn't understand or hasn't noticed. Scary.

Arlen Specter in Lancaster tonight welcoming Speaker Nancy Pelosi said they(the Dems of which he is now one) would take it to and defeat the tea party people in November. That’s a rallying point if I ever heard one. Surely we can come together to rid our state of him this year.

The operative term you used is "to a point."

Theoretically, the Tea Party/Reform movement and the GOP should be working hand in hand. But there are two problems.

On the one hand you have RINO leadership in the GOP that wants nothing to do with the Tea Party because it represents reform and RINOs have no more interest in conservative reform than Ed Rendell; they are liberal to the core and are diametrically opposed to lower taxes, limited government and moral absolutes.

On the other hand, there are within the Tea Party movement a small group of vocal loons – from neo-anarchists to genuine fringe people – who simply want to destroy any rule of law in order to make themselves king; they masquerade as "constitutional scholars" who refuse to get driver's licenses and demand that county sheriffs arrest all the judges.

If these two groups were taken out of the equation, I think you would find that a lot of positive things could happen.

Having an opinion isn't a big deal at all.

But when you're the chair of the county party and you claim you have an open primary, don't nod in agreement with one guy and tear after another over the same issue.

This six way race in the 3rd Congressional District with one candidate looking like the "annointed one" should get conservatives thinking about the concept of the insiders using third and fourth candidates to split votes away so the insider candidate can win.

Conservatives-Tea Party Activists etc. should find the one good candidate and put all their eggs into that candidate to beat the insider candidate.

Any ideas as to which one is the real McCoy and which are the dividers?

  13. Posted February 6, 2010 at 7:58 am | Permalink

Absolutely correct. For years now I've had people tell me they are no longer registered republicans. Not because they don't feel they're not still republicans but because they feel the republican party left them. I don't want to see a third political party, but if people like Rob Gleason don't "get it", there will be a third political (TEA) party and that will make it much easier for democrats to get elected in the closer districts. Establishment republicans don't care if they destroy the republican party. But just maybe if there is a TEA party, real republicans will jump ship for the TEA party leaving few people as registered republicans. Specter would probably jump back but there would be few supporters of the old GOP.

Defeating arrogance–standing together led by Rendell were Specter, Casey, Brady all slobbering all over Pelosi. If we can’t reject them and their ‘plans’ it matters little whether it’s called Tea Party or Garden Party. It will amount to much ado about nothing.

Everything that I've heard points to Mike Kelly as the chosen one. MerCo GOP Chairman King's actions have also helped flesh that out.

I met Mike Kelly…and he does seem like a pretty good guy. I also met Clayton Grabb. I know that he's squarely in the conservative corner.

Kelly has hired the Mike Long/Todd Nyquist firm as consultants. That is a big concern to me. I certainly plan to speak with him about it.

Why Tea Party members are endorsing Steve Fisher for Congress in PA-3‏

As citizens, we are responsible for electing leaders that are of good moral character, exhibit incorruptible ethics and care deeply about our country. All too often, we get the leaders we deserve, because we have not invested in the time to learn about them. More often, we just blindly follow what the Democrats and Republicans have picked for us. Then too, so many American shrug their civic duty to even vote. That is the sad state of our country today. We need to choose honest leaders that believe that America is a christian nation and endeavors to do good. They should believe that the family is sacred and we are the ultimate authority, not the government. That if you break the law you pay the penalty. That justice is blind and no one is above it. They should believe that we have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results. We do not "Share the Wealth", just the opportunity. That we work hard for what we have and we will share it with who we want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable. That it is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion. And finally, the government works for me. We do not answer to them, they answer to us.
We know that Steve Fisher believes in these principles and those of our "Founding Fathers". Steve is also very active in the community. He is the past President of the Cochranton Music Boosters; is on the Board of the Crawford Area Scholarship Committee; serves on the leadership team for the International Referral Network (business organization); is a member of the Meadville Sertoma Club; serves on the Meadville-Western Crawford County Chamber of Commerce Golf Committee; teaches Sunday School at Grace United Methodist Church (Meadville); and has volunteered for numerous other organizations and events. He is also an approved instructor for teaching Continuing Education courses to Pennsylvania insurance agents. He is the son of an Army officer who graduated in 1976 from Fairview High School (Erie County) and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Gannon University (Erie County) in 1980. Steve obtained his Life and Health insurance license in 1980 upon graduation from Gannon, and made the decision to remain in northwest Pennsylvania to raise his family. He has resided in Cochranton, PA (Crawford County) for the past 17 years with his wife Carole, who teaches First Grade. He has three children and one grandson.
We are so tired of our elected leaders lying to us. Their moral depravity makes us so ashamed. If we continue to elect these type of leaders, our country will continue its downward spiral into a decadent abyss.
So, we owe it to ourselves, our families, and our country to elect leaders who realize that we will not settle for less than real leadership and that they will have to provide genuine direction because it is the best path toward election. All are invited to climb on board Steve's campaign wagon. You will be glad you did! You may learn more, volunteer and donate on Steve's website or contact Steve directly at:
