I notice that her final parting piece of "wisdom" was for the party to endorse a candidate for LG and get all the other candidates to drop out and support that person in interest of "party unity." Following her logic, we should take another Swann/Matthews approach and let state committee crown our nominees for us. I'm glad she's out if this is her mentality towards competition and an open primary.

Let's hope that State Committee decides on an open primary that allows the Commonwealth's 3.1 million Republicans to make their own choices on May 18th!

Another Swann/Matthews! Ha. I had forgotten (or repressed) that unhappy memory. Don't hear much from Swann these days. An way too much about Matthews! You're right. Let the party's members pick the candidates. Otherwise the stupidity of Swann/Matthews will be repeated. That Bob Asher really knows how to pick 'em doesn't he?

"Unnecessary and expensive" primaries really killed the Obama campaign. Not to mention how it demoralized Rendell in 2002.

Could she be any more useless? She gives female candidates a bad name

With Skip Brion on the sidelines, 'acting chair' Val DiGiorgio (with help from bobguzzardi) has performed effective espionage and subterfuge.

In DiGiorgio's wake, we now have Gwenne Alexander, Warren Kampf and a DOA Carol Aichele candidacy (to name a few).

DiGiorgio's plans for changing the face of the Chester County Republican party is falling into place. Money, contracts and power. Vince (his mentor) is feeling like a proud father right now.

Dark days ahead for those of us who want good candidates to serve the taxpayers. South Philly-style politics is alive and well – in Chester County.

You think Chester is awash is corrupt philly style pay to play? Wait till you see the eyepopping antics in Montco. While Hoeffel is off running for governor on the communist party ticket, Jim Matthews and Barry Miller are putting Vince Fumo to shame with what they're doing. However, an reporter named Keith Phucas from the Times Herald is uncovering what they're up to. The bald arrogance will stun you.

Carol Aichele is a classy lady who fought the good fight. She brought a lot to the table as a first-time statewide candidate, including the ability to help the GOP with suburban soccer moms and independents. It’s sad the “good old boys” in the party pushed her aside for someone else. Time will tell if their decision was a wise one. I hope we’ll see more of Commissioner Aichele in the future!

I honestly don't know the lady. She could be the nicest person in the world, however, her shocking disregard for recent political history in Pennsylvania and the United States by claiming that a competitive primary hurts the party in the General Election and her statement that the party ought to rally around one candidate for Governor and Lt Governor shows that she's still treating the political process like it's 1960 and not 2010.
I couldn't vote for a candidate who sought to prevent the voters from making the final decision or trying to talk other candidates out of running for office. Going back to 1986, four of the six winners of gubernatorial contests up until 2006 had competitive primaries (Casey in 86, Casey in 90, Ridge in 94, and Rendell in 02). Not all of them were difficult primaries like Casey's in 1990 against Phil Berg, but the point is that just like in business and education , competition works. Meanwhile, competitive primaries increase the preparedness and effectiveness of candidates moving into November.

Mary, um, she is free to run. if she is going to let a little thing like the endorsement scare her out, she's not fit to wear anyone's apron.

She could not win this race even having an institutional advantage. She is not capable of winning anything serious after this failure and her failure against State Senator Dimwit.

Look, even if you don't support her or an endorsed ticket, this was a classy statement and way out. Be civil, even if you want a different result.
