Wait a minute here…
He’s sorry for speaking what he truly believes about race and the people in his district.
*BUT*
He’s not sorry for slandering Marines and forcing them to go through months of public humiliation, only to be proven not guilty?
“Russell added that just because the people in Western Pennsylvania aren’t embracing Obama’s values and positions on issues like life, taxes and the Second Amendment doesn’t makes us racist.
“That’s the cheapest of cheap shots.”
AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!
Dear Congressman Murtha,
I’m not prone to writing letters to the editor or to my elected official or even to all my friends at Christmas time to tell them my life story from the past year. Knowing that, hopefully your staff people will recognize the effort it takes for me to write this even simple post on a website.
I do not accept your apology as I see it for what it is; A political “make good” on a stupid, insensitive comment that paints your district and half of a state as racist. I do not appreciate the comments I’m hearing from friends busting my balls about where I live after I’ve had to dispell such notions for years.
As a native of Westmoreland County, I am proud to say where I grew up, where I am raising my family, and where I plan to retire, if I can afford to after the mess your colleagues put us in. I can’t believe you would say something so utterly stupid. I’m sure every Chamber of Commerce director in PA is thrilled to see your comments make national headlines.
By your own words in yesterday’s story, you indicate to me (reading between the lines) that you, yourself, are a racist. By that, I mean, that in your lifetime you can’t possibly tell me you haven’t uttered the “n” word, uttered a racist joke, laughed at one, or looked down your nose at someone not as “good” as you.
I would hate to see Johnstown lose the clout it has in you since that clout is the only thing that keeps much of the economy in Johnstown humming. But if you lose, hopefully your replacement will have enough sense to promote his area for the benefit of all rather than tear it down for such an insensitive, hurtful, and distasteful remark that knocks us back another ten years from shedding such stereotypes about the people and the place I call home.
If I were Russell, I’d keep pounding Murtha on this stupid comment. In fact, he could even modify it by using Rich’s point “Murtha’s sorry for calling his constituents racist but refuses to apologize for insulting our Marines?”
Seems to me that Murtha is getting HUGE heat for shooting off his mouth. And if he bails on the debate with Russell, that would indicate he is running scared.
I have to wonder if this is a concerted demorcartic effort to make undecideds think that if they choose not to vote for Obama they are racist. They have been dropping this line about all sorts of things lately and I just don’t get it. If the polls were reveresed I would understand but he is winning, unless his internal polls are showing weakness along the race lines, which I have said on here before would not suprise me. After all I belive he is still losing in Allegheny County.

Bill Russell speaks out on Murtha’ attack on those voters whose votes he seeks for 18th term. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tXrpYTGF-I
In Southwest Pennsylvania,Liberals carry guns. The NRA is sending out Compare and Contrast on Obama and there is a very, very clear choice if you support the individual right to bear arms to defend yourself and your country. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0608/11452.html National Rifle Association “The National Rifle Association plans to spend about $40 million on this year’s campaign, with $15 million of that devoted to portraying Barack Obama as a threat to the Second Amendment rights upheld last week by the Supreme Court.”
This is Reagan Democrat country. Pro Life and Obama will not even oppose killing babies born after aborted abortions. http://www.lifenews.com/nat4457.html Life News http://www.lifenews.com Search “Obama” on this site and you will see that the Pro Life vote is against Obama and with very, very good reasons.
Values, not Racism are the Reason 12th House District will vote against Obama and, I hope, Jack Murtha.

Fat Jack. What a guy. What a Marine. The Few. The Proud. The Idiot!
RETREAT!! RETREAT!!
My belief that jack is starting to lose it were further confirmed by his remarks. Hey, if we in the 12th district are lucky this may be his last run.
Well there we have it folks. The old guy has gone coo coo for cocoa puffs again. I for one don’t think the area I live in is racist. Many people voted for Lynn Swann in the Governor race, but some didn’t think he was conservative enough, was just a pawn of the PA Gop establishment and didn’t push the Harrisburg reform issue enough in his campaign. This is why Swann lost conservative support not because of racism. As for the constituents of Jack “_ss” Murtha’s district. This is your last chance to rid yourself of the burden that you have been carrying for years. How many times does this man have to embarrass you on the national political scene? Murtha’s comments calling everyone in his own district a racist should in a regular election bounce the guy from office. If this was any other race in any other place Murtha would be gone. As for you Johnstown/Cambria county voters, I put the blame on you. Don’t get mad at Murtha get mad at yourself for your continuous support of this idiot. I live in the 9th District and have been embarrassed for the neighbors to my west for a long time. I for one don’t think you are racist. I do think the voters of Murtha’s district are “stupid” for re-electing this guy every year. Oh by the way, for those of you Murtha constituents that think he is bringing all these jobs and development to your area and let him get away with everything you can. I just drove through Johnstown. It still looks like a hell hole despite all the pork Murtha is spreading around.
Wait wait wait… this apology sounds a lot like, “I’m sorry you’re offended.” Not, “I’m sorry I’m a racist idiot.” Hopefully, his constituents realize the difference.
I am not defending Murtha in anyway shape or form for his words or actions, but I remember Bud serving the 9th for quite some time.
Not much pork there!
Murtha just wants to play it safe and not say anything else stupid by attending a debate.
He hopes he can run the clock out and win.
AWESOME!

Murtha is a walking billboard for term limits.
I’ve known Jack Murtha for 20 years and I think he’s gone round the bend in the last 2 years. First he gets his nose out of joint with his once buddies at the Pentagon (apparently he felt dis-respected) and goes on a rant to retreat from Iraq to Okinawa. Then he opposes the surge (and he got that one wrong) then he accuses Marines in Iraq of murder (and he got that wrong) now he accuses his neighbors of being racist for no other reason than they don’t seem to want to vote the way he wants them to vote…Jack’s been in DC for a long, long time and there comes a time in every career to call it a day and maybe it’s time to blow the shift change whistle on jack and send him home from work.
We’re famous, to bad they didn’t cite us, I’m calling shenanigans!!
Well at least old Bud gave the voters a pretty nice, convenient high way. As for Murtha, what did he give you? A couple of office buildings with no jobs that are empty. Sounds like Johnstown in a nutshell.
